Are these prices for real?

Good luck getting that AKV value studio during spring break - there are only a couple of them.
Studios have 1 bed and you have to make make/unmake the sofa bed (and/or chair) each night/day if you'll need more than 1 bed, that plus no housekeeping makes them a less attractive option than an equivalently priced room @ a discount for some people. Plus, you can cancel and get a refund from Disney as well as not pay the whole cost up front, whereas most DVC rentals require up front all the money and no cancelation. That said, the studio v. deluxe room comparisons almost always favor DVC rental. With the 1 br. or 2 br. DVC rental v. CRO prices @ a discount, that is not always true, you really have to do a spreadsheet sometimes to see what is best pricewise.

Also worth noting that in the case of some of the comparisons that involve very popular/new locations, like BLT and GFV, the chances of actually getting a reservation through DVC at this point may be very close to zero anyway.

OP here, why would my chances be zero to none when I am talking about 2015? We are saving now and would be prepared to book something early 2014 for the trip...

500 for standard view at wl????? That can't be right! :faint:

Unfortunately it is the case for us. However I didn't mention that we would be charged for an extra adult because of my 18 year old step son also being in the room. I know that makes a difference in pricing.

your son only counts for WDW - with DVC you can have 4 adults (instead of 2) and the price is the same.

to get my BLT points you would need to pay at least $14 per point. to get BWV or VWL it is $12 per point.

Now OKW and SSR you might be able to get at $10 per point - because of their location - at times you can add AKV to that list. at other times AKV is pretty popular.

hoping BLT won't be so difficult to get a reservation at - now that GFV is opening. since GFV is so tiny really don't think it will change the demand for BLT - just hoping.

my problem make my big reservation at 11 months always - but sometimes can go at other times too and would love BLT - but mostly have to take something else.

That's one advantage DVC rental has over a cash reservation that hadn't occurred to me - Disney waits so long to release discounts and then they limit rooms at particular resorts plus they limit room categories whereas w/ a DVC rental you can lock in your price much earlier than you can waiting for a discount to come out.

I personally find Disney's prices insane now. For $500+ a night you can stay at a Four Seasons and get over the top service, which, when I spend that much $ a night, I expect. I'm talking about great bath products, twice daily housekeeping, pool towel/drink service, etc {seriously cannot wait until the Orlando Four Seasons opens!}. But, that's on a separate note.... when it comes to Disney, I just don't see the value in their prices as they continue to sky-rocket.

We were lucky enough to snag VGF for our stay in January. We booked through DVC Request at $14 per point, which works out to be just under $300 per night for a studio/water view. Comparing to Disney's prices I definitely consider this a "deal."

We also booked at Disney's Boardwalk, again renting someone's points {not through DVC Request as we were able to get less $ per point by using this board}. We booked a studio Boardwalk view for what works out to be about $180 per night. That's close to a mod's pricing for a king bed room and we're getting a deluxe property with an amazing view.

The no housekeeping thing is a big disadvantage, but you can add it on for $.

Still, there is a huge value in renting someone's points vs. booking through Disney now. It's definitely worth looking into.

I agree renting points is the way to go!! I did want to make sure you are aware the studios do not have king beds...queen and a sleeper sofa!
