I wasn't sure where to post this, almost did on the budget board, but just wasn't sure.
i picked a few pins up at goodwill and was wondering if they were anything special? They are a thick white plastic with a long type pin on the back. On the back they say "The Walt Disney Co" and under that it says "Monogram Products Inc", with their address under that. The first one is Mickey's head with one arm, his hand is adjusting his red sunglasses. He has on a gold sparkly shirt with red trim. The second one is Mickey's head with a green sparkly bowtie and a glittery gold ribbon attached.

Dh thought i should wait until after i had taken pics, to post....i told him that i bet someone here would know without pics..

I would love to hear about these...thanks :)

i checked that site, but i can only find what appears to be metal pins? Maybe the plastic ones are there, but i can't find them. Let me figure out how to post a pic on this board, and i will do it.

Thanks!

Plastic pins are just other types of merchandise that were sold at WDW. They can't be used for pin trading with CMs -- we have to trade for metal pins only. But you can certainly wear them on a pin lanyard and see if anyone offers a trade. But they're just some of the many mass-produced plastic pins that used to be offered in souvenir shops. I doubt that they have much value past what you paid for them.

i was actually gonna list them on ebay....if they would sell. I only paid .35 for both. i thought maybe there were certain pins that were harder to find, and hoping these may be like that! :cool1:
My photo storage place is down, but as soon as it is up, i will post a pic.

here we go:

OH OH OH! I have the one on the right, plus a Minnie to go with it.

I believe that these were purchased in DL around 1978 (actually, the week that Pope John Paul II was elected - was that 1978??)

Hope that helps!!

are they that old? Oh man, i hope they fetch a decent price....wouldn't have to be too much, they were pretty cheap. I would love some more info to help with my listing.

I might go and find my Mickey and Minnie if you want a full set - I don't know if they would fetch much (but maybe if they are pre-pin trading craze they will?)

The only other place I could think of: I used to buy Mickey Maus magazine weekly in Germany in the 70's and 80's, and they have a free item every week (stickers, toys, 3d glasses, etc etc etc) I have a lot of those still. (And they are a great comic - check out a local international magazine store and you'll see what I mean)

I doubt that they are from that magazine, though, since I don't think that they had dangerous items like pins.

I also used to buy Disneyland magazine from the UK in the 70's, and according to Disney Magazine they are worth $1-$10 each. I do see them listed on Ebay now and again, and I have a complete set, although some are well worn.

Actually, I have a pretty good collection of European Mickey magazines! Also have an Egyptian Mickey comic book that someone gave me!!!

I sent you a pm - I found a different Mickey, as well as Minnie, but can't find the Mickey on the right (these were in two different spots)

Mickey has lost his pin, though.

Mine don't have writing on the back???

Here's something from an article on Laughingplace.com about pin trading rules at DL:

The following comes from the newly printed guidelines - which will be translated into Japanese, French and Spanish aside from English:

The general rule on what constitutes a tradable pin is that it is a cloisonné, semi-cloisonné or hard enamel (all or in part) Disney pin, or an acceptable operating participant pin (House of Blues, Rainforest Café, ESPN Zone), that represents a specific Disney event, place or location, character or icon.
Only operating participant pins that show a Disney, Disneyland ® Resort, or Walt Disney World Resort affiliation will be accepted for trading.
Disney Service pins, Spirit of Disneyland ® Resort pins and Disney language pins will not be accepted for trading.
Counterfeit pins and lower quality pins (e.g.. plastic pins, rubber pins, other non-metal pins, epoxy-coated pins, etc.) will not be accepted for trading.

So they wouldn't work as trades, but I think that Ebay may be an option. I couldn't find anything on a websearch for these though....

I still think that it was that DL trip - the only other one pre 1994 was in 1972, and I doubt that these are from then - the gold makes me think Disco era hence 1978. And I know that we went when the pope was elected because I remember sitting in our room at the Grand Hotel and my father explaining the process.....

Sorry, I don't have any other info to share..... :confused3

Honestly? Unless you find someone who's just nuts about these types of pins, you probably won't get more than a dollar. They're not rare or unusual in any way -- they were mass-produced in the early 1980s and you can still find them all over the place in dollar stores and "Disney Discount" merchandise stores. Alot of CMs I know use them when we travel, as give-aways.

Good luck, though!
