We just got back from WDW and Ft. Wilderness. We noticed there are alot of campsites that seem to belong to Snowbirds. As our retirement is inching closer, I was wondering if anyone here knows if there are special rates for campsites of people that stay for the winter? Seemed like several of the Rvs in the 100 and 200 loops were there for quite awhile. Sounds like a great way to spend the winter to me!

Only 10 yrs and 4 days left to go till retirement :hyper:

We were looking at 5th wheels at the RV show this past weekend, trying to decide which one would best suit us in our new "snowbird" phase of our lives.

When I was there two years ago I alked with the guy at the next site over. He was staying for 60 days at the "snowbird" rate. As I recall, it was about 10% lower than the value season rate. Not a huge savings.

But, tie that in with a part time job a Disney and you stay for free and get entry into the parks for your self included.

Disney Workcamping Information

While they don't advertise FW as your campground or do work for camping trades, nothing stops you from working at Disney and camping at FW.

Thanks tim5055!

I checked out the sites you posted and got alot of useful information.

With less than 5 years till retirement, it's something to think about.

Not that I'm an eavesdropper but.....as DH and I were walking from the Settlement to our campsite, we passed an RV with several people sitting outside talking. I heard one man say in a loud voice...."You can't beat it. I'm staying here for $19.00 a night." That's what got me thinking about a "Snowbird rate". (He looked like he was of retirement age)

we got a winter settler's rate for Jan into Feb...
instead of the 41 value rate, it was 31 plus tax... not bad,
had to be there 21 days or more and give the code to get the discount...
we left to go to Long Key State Park (most beautiful and I could push my yak into the water from my site on the ocean....
well, when we got back it was back to the 41 plus value season....
a CM said from 2/12 to 3/13 there was another long term rate.....
donno what rate it will be...
but anyhow....
here is what was told to me..... the snow birds, long termers move in the prime spots in October...get the winter long term rate whatever it is called that year...they get a fla id and get the annual pass....
get further discounts thru AP or resident ...so I guess with all the
discounts, it probably is possible for 19 per day..
then some of the regulars told us that the loop of preference is 1100...it is booked from october to march...they have their own inner circle and make sure only the same people and friends get into that loop...in fact one guy said they practically interview you....
truth or fiction, only the shadow knows for sure....(no pet loop)
yea, some get jobs......and also found out that the inner circle of regulars go to a disney sale of things that are being replaced around the resort and get great buys on items..(only if you know the secret pass word, I guess.....
the more I go to FW...THE MORE i find out...:wave2: :wave2:

Stayed in the 1100 loop last month, nice community. If we ever get the chance to retire, we're going to fulltime at FW. Of course we will have to have a triple slide, bath and a half MH to be comfortable. Just think, no property taxes, no water bills, no electric bills and fireworks every night.

Thanks SPINNER!!

Gosh....I can't wait to retire!! (less than 5 years!) I figured there had to be some special code with secret passwords and maybe a secret handshake too. lol Now I have another question.....

Where or How did/do you get the code for the Winter Settlers rate?

sometime in the spring...got to keep monitoring the board...
also if one reservationist says they have none showing for that code,
try someone else...just like everything else, some are on the ball, and some dont give a dung.....
we were in 800 loop....went to keys then to 1600 loop...
1600 has big sites and tall pines...very nice...we dont have pets but they said that was all they had...
next jan will ask for 1000 loop, but will take 900 (pet overflow loop)...
dont think I could pass muster for 1100
so there ya go.............................spinner
