Are There Pop Warner Kids In February?

When we went to WDW for the second time, we went in February. We stayed at All Star Movies, and we saw tons of cheerleaders. Our resort was just over run by them. However, it wasn't in a bad way. There were just lots of them. My DD was amazed by them and wanted to be a cheerleader from that moment on. They were very friendly to her. They took time to talk to her. The only "bad" part about them was they really slowed the food court down and sharing a DTD bus with them. They were all "going out" and dressed a little risque for my taste. But otherwise, we didn't see them. In fact, they weren't allowed in the parks until their cheering was done. It was a serious competition.

This is not the same type of kids that were down there in December. I'm thinking of writing a letter to Pop Warner to express my feelings, and want to compare the two groups. However, I don't want to compare them if PW kids are part of that. Do PW kids go in February, too?

No. Pop Warner nationals come at the end of Midget football season which usually ends late November for most. That's why this is held when it is. The cheerleaders you see in Feb/Mar/Apr are there for high school nationals, college nationals, all-star nationals. Which are held on different weekends and these groups are not there for an entire week, usually just Thursday night to either Sunday night or early Monday unless their families decide to extend their stay.

I have to tell you it's getting really annoying to read everyone's complaints. Not that they're not justified, but if you don't like being there with these groups go at a different time. Such a simple solution. :stir:

Thanks for your reply, at least most of it. You are right. I can go at a different time. But I love Christmas time. So, I'll continue to go. I would not, however, let my children be associated with Pop Warner, and it's all because of the behavior of these children. I think that it is important that they know that they are not giving themselves a good reputation. I've been to WDW numerous times. I have many more trips to come. Cheerleaders aren't going to ruin my trip, but I feel sorry for the people who make a once in a lifetime trip only to have it marred by disrespectful people.

And, because you were so helpful to me with your answer, I'll be helpful to you. My settings are such that when I go into a category like Theme Parks I see just the thread titles. I do not see what each thread says. The only way I can see what people are saying is if I click on that thread title. So, the subject about heelies (sp?) while I'm sure is right on about those annoying things, is just not of interest to me, so I don't open it. Maybe you should try to change your settings so you have the choice of not opening the threads that you don't want to read.

The problem is, there is almost no time you can go anymore when there is not some special activity going on. Disney does this on purpose to keep crowds level all year long. Personally, I am glad to hear about everyones experiences so I can make an informed decision. Of course, YMMV. We have been to MNSSHP, MVMCP, Easter, Spring Break, summer, etc. We plan to do NOJ next year. We always have fun even when it is crowded. It just helps to be informed and have a plan of action.

This was a little harsh. I clicked on your thread because my daughter has gone to all-star nationals in the springtime and I knew I could help you with that. Sorry I did! :confused3

BTW, you don't have to open threads to see all the complaints about Pop Warner week. All I'm saying is if you don't want to be there with them, go a different time.

Oh, and Merry Christmas to you too!!! :badpc:

To the OP....

I'm so glad you posted this because our trip is in Feb. After reading many of the other posts about the Pop football/cheerleader issues, I have been VERY NERVOUS about our trip! (here's a link to the thread I posted in reference to this... http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1299602 )

It really puts me more at ease to find out that going at this time may not interfere with our vacation in the ugly way that some people have experienced this past week! :thumbsup2

I truly do thank you for your answer. I apologize for my comment. However, I asked a question, and you answered it, but you also added your comment about people complaining about Pop Warner and how we could just go someplace else. I wasn't complaining in my post. There is a huge difference between the group of cheerleaders there in February and what I saw last week. I think it's important to note that, and I wanted to make sure before I do say something PW that I knew for sure whether they were part of the group.

I totally agree!! I'd rather be prepared. If I know what's going on at a particular time, then I know when to schedule a vacation based on what we can/can't handle. :thumbsup2
