Are there minimum age guidelines for rides?

Is there such a thing as an age guide for the rides? My DS is only 3.5 yrs old but very tall. He would technically be tall enough to ride most all of the rides, but there are some that I won't let him ride (mission space, for example) even though he meets the height requirement.

I was thinking of just sticking to the rides listed as for preschoolers on the main Disney website. Is that the best plan? How do you decide which rides are too "old", either physically or mentally, for your child who otherwise meets the height requirement? TIA :)

I think it depends on each kid. My youngest DS was 3 1/2 on our last trip and I let him ride Test Track, Splash, BTMRR, Star Tours, and Soarin. He was technically "tall" enough for ToT, but I thought the themeing might scare him and I don't know how all of those drops would effect his little head. Anyway, use your best judgement. You know your son best.

Next trip, my DS will be 4 1/2 and will be tall enough for Space and Everest. I haven't yet decided if he will ride. Maybe Everest b/c I can sit next to him.

Best of luck

Honestly, I always let my kids ride anything they wanted to, as long as they met the height requirement. (they are also big for their age) The only thing they ever found frightening is "Alien Encounter" (now closed) Of course, they are daredevils!

There are no age guidlines, just height. If you feel your son can handle certain rides well enough then by all means try it. My four year old is just and I mean just tall enough for the 40" rides but we knew he could not handle those rides. There are so many rides the whole family can go on together he should not feel as if he is missing out.

My 3 1/2 year old son hit 40 inches several months ago... and he LOVES the 40" rides...
Splash Mnt, Thunder Mnt, Test Track, Star Tours... all MAJOR favorites right now...

HTH! Have fun!
