Are there any undesirable Woods View rooms at WL

I have been to WL before and stayed in a courtyard view room. We ended up with a room with a closed balcony, but it had a view of the MK fireworks over the roof. This time I am staying in a Woods View room since that's the room type that was available with my postcard rate.

Are there any room locations that I should request to avoid due to noise, poor view, etc? Also any really good room locations I should request?

Also, can anyone describe to me where these rooms are located? I know some are on the wing that faces MK. Do any look our over the service area? Are ther any on the other side of the hotel?

Some of those woodsview rooms do overlook an unloading dock, but I don't know what the numbers of those rooms would be.

We had a woodsview room that looked across to the Villas at Wilderness Lodge. It wasn't too bad, if you looked to the right or left all we saw were trees, but straight ahead was this, the white stuff on the rooftops was frost! It had gotten really cold that night (January 2003):

Rooms further down the corridor would overlook the VWL pool.

We are staying there in July and am curious about some good room locations to try to request too.

I had a woods view room and I wasn't too thrilled with it. It looked over the little pond, and I could see the monorail and Contemporary through the trees. It was very close to the elevators near Roaring Forks and the laundry room. Actually the view from the room was nice and peaceful and serene. The problem wasn't as much the view, but that I was on the ground floor with a patio, directly next to a fence with the loading dock directly next to that. I was also traveling solo, and this must have been the worst room to be in, ground floor near workers and trucks and all sorts of strangers. :( I wanted to switch rooms, but I had zero luck doing that in the past at other resorts so I don't bother anymore. I think I would have been happy if I had the pond woods view from the 2nd floor or higher!

Actually, I would hesitate to stay at WL again unless I have courtyard view! :cloud9:

I am also finalizing my plan to stay at the WL and am debating to go with a woods view or a courtyard view..I certainly don't want to be looking at loading dock..what is the main differences between the two?

We had a hideous woods view room a couple of years ago--there were about 3 trees in our line of vision and the rest was the parking lot. There would have been at least 5 or so rooms per floor on our side of the building that would have had about the same view.

I would be very careful with woods view--there are many substandard views. Either save the money and get standard or splurge on Courtyard.

I read that courtyard views are the way to go at the WL, the only problem is, if you go during a busy time, the noise from the pool may interfere with napping or sleeping.

Someone posted a photo here a while back from the view they had in #5032. If I ever stay at WL again, I'm going to request (and hopefully get) this room! It was almost a straight shot at the Castle, and I'm sure the fireworks from Wishes could be seen as well!

I had a "so-called" woods view assigned in November. It was above the check-in desk and overlooked a roof and the road approaching the WL. Oh yeah, you could see about 5 trees from over the WLV. I immediately called the front desk and complained. At first they told me that if you can see any tree then it is considered a woods view. I told them in almost exact words that this view "sucked". I said it looks like a standard view to me. I paid for a woods view and I want it. They moved me to a pool view room at no additional charge.

Now I'm getting worried. Courtyard wasn't available, standard wasn't available...so we took woodsview. We requested an upper floor...but some of these woodsview rooms sound bad. I am almost tempted to try the old fax-to-the-room-assigner strategy.... Has anybody done that lately?

What are the views like from concierage? Are there certain rooms that are better than others? To be honest, we would like a view of MK so am not sure what to request.

We had a not so great woods view last summer. It was the last woods view room in the hall before the rooms became standard rooms. If you looked straight out you saw the trees and otter pond (yes we saw otters, snakes, and an alligator). But if you looked to the left (standard view) you watched the trucks back in all day and the workers heading to and from work from the loading dock. It was pretty noisey in the AM when we tried to sit out and have coffee. There was no hope of being upgraded or moved since it was July and the resort was full. We paid for woods view and got woods view. This was the only time we were not upgraded at WL. 3 other times we were upgraded (without asking). We didn't let it spoil our trip, just makes us appreciate it more when we are upgraded.

I found a photo of room #5032 right here on the DIS Photo Gallery. (Thanks to DISer Terk-1!)

Here it is:

Keep in mind that photo taken from room "5032" of the castle and the monorail are zoomed. I stayed in room "5030" last August which is right next door and while you can see the castle, Comtemporary and Monorail through the trees they are quite a way off in the distance and the trees are much more over grown than they used to be. However, the fireworks are great to see from these rooms. Just beware, if the light is on in your room and you open your patio door every flying insect in the state of Florida will join you in your room. There are no screens on the doors. The only time I ventured out onto the balcony was during the day. Personally, I would prefer a courtyard view next time. :earboy2:
