Are there any off-site hotles within walking distance or near Universal Studios?

We checked the Prices on the three on property hotels at Universal and we are trying not to spend the higher costs. Are there any hotels located within a short walk to Universal that anyone has stayed at and would recommend?

Thanks

Although, I have never stayed off Disney site I am planning to stay off site this year.

I think you will get many different answers as to the walking question. From what I have read it is about 1/2 a mile to the entrance of the park from the entrance of the property. But the parking garage is a long way from the parks too.

Doubletree and Holiday Inn are right across the street from the entrance to the resort. They run about $100 per night. Depending on who you talk to you can walk from many other resorts if you do not mind a hike. If you look up universal city walk on google maps you can get a street view and see where things are in relation to the park.

Someone posted this map earlier.

We stayed at the Doubletree at the entrace to Universal in December 08. We payed around $70 a night and that included a breakfast buffet in the morning. (Oh, there is a parking fee of maybe $12 or so a night.)It was about a 15-20 minute walk to the parks. We thought it was a perfect location for a Universal trip (until we spent our last two days - Dec. 25 and 26 - at the onsite resorts, THAT was perfection).
But honestly, I have nothing but nice things to say about the Doubletree. It was clean, quiet, nice size rooms, had a fridge and small couch, and the pool and hot tub were nice - although nothing "special". Very nice for the price and location.

We have stayed at The Doubletree Universal twice and loved it! Rooms were lovely, staff was fantastic, pool area nothing special but then we didn't care as we never used it.Next year we would have stayed there but we are splurging and treating ourselves to an onsite hotel.

Great to here all the good reviews for Doubletree. We will be there for two nights starting Oct 24. Could not justify the higher costs of the on site hotels. 15 to 20 minute walk to the gate is not to bad.

Hi,

I am staying at the Doubletree for three nights Oct 3-6th ( stayed there a few years ago and liked it) on Hilton points. Not a bad walk to citywalk and Universal/IOA. ( although you do have to cross a main road ( with lights) IIRC)

Regards

I just booked DoubleTree on Cheapostay.com for 3 nights in November (11/10-11/13) at $57 per night. They do stack on a lot of fees, but there's a $15 booking credit, and a promo code of FALL15 gives you another $15 dollar off.

So my 3 nights stay is only $193!!!:banana::banana:
