....who pay their dues monthly, instead of annually, by a US bank account?

Thanks,

Lisa

I'd be interested in finding out about this too. I think monthly would be a great painless way to pay.

I don't have one but I was thinking of using my U.S. dollar account in a similar way, just depositing a regular amount once a month to keep a balance for the dues and sending them a cheque.

I'm a new member and disappointed they can't take monthly payments from a Canadian U.S. $ bank account.

Just to let you know, you have to have a U.S. bank account from a U.S. bank, and we were told you can't get a U.S. account unless you have a U.S. Social Security number, so no go for us. You can't pay your dues monthly from a Canadian bank's U.S. account, if that is what you are looking for.

I just called the other day to verify that DVC is still following this policy - I always hope that they'll allow us to pay by monthly by credit card or at least take it from a Canadian U.S. bank account, but they said absolutely not. Without a U.S. Social Security number, you can't open a U.S. account, so you are not going to be able to pay monthly.

Another shaft for us Canadians, Tiger :(

Hi Lisa,
A SSR & OKW owner chiming in here who does indeed have his monthly dues and loan payments automatically deducted from an American account each month.

It is true that DVC will not withdraw from a US$ account thru a CDN bank, but I can assure you that is possible to open a US$ account with an American bank here in Canada, without having a Social Security Number.

I went thru the same scenario back in June when I financed an add-on thru DVC and wanted my dues deducted monthly too.
Here is what you can do:

Royal Bank is affiliated with RBC Centura in the States, so go to your local Royal bank branch, bring lots of types of I.D.,(passports, D.L. whatever you've got) and open a CDN$ "Day to Day" savings account. This account has no monthly charge, only charges for each withdrawal etc.

While you are there, ask to open a checking account with RBC, this acct also has no monthly charge (if you maintain a $700 US balance). They will make you fill out a few forms, check lots I.D., then send your account request off to somewhere in the States, and in a few days you will have a USD$ acct. thru an American bank:cool1:
A week after you're approved for the American account, you will receive checks with this account, and you can then send one of those checks to DVC, from which they can make the withdrawals.

For the record, I had no previous accounts with Royal, I just went there because I heard this was possible.
What I do each month is, set-up an automatic transfer from my bank (Pres. Choice) into my Royal CDN$ savings account, then go the RBC website and transfer funds from my Royal bank acct to my RBC account to cover the withdrawal. Nice thing too is that the RBC website has both your Royal bank acct and RBC acct so transfer is very easy and painless. Your money is converted at the days rate and is done instantly.

I hope all this made sense. If its still unclear, let me know and I'll try to help.
Also go to this link and familiarize yourself with it before yopu go into the branch.

Yes, I was referring to a US based bank account, not a US$ account here.

Thanks for taking the time to type all that out. I'm sure a lot of us are thrilled that it is somehow possible. Third year of annual dues and I've realized I'm simply not good at setting the money aside. Unfortunately. Thanks CPC. I really appreciate it. Really appreciate it.

CPC. Do you have any idea what the fees are if the account balance is less than $700?

Thanks,

Lisa

Or I can simply not be so lazy and ask RBC.:lmao:

We are PC banking as well so nice to know how you set that part up as well.

We just did this last week. (we too had never dealt with RBC before, they were great with everything) Just grabbing the paperwork here. It's $3.95 US a month if the balance is under $700.

Thanks so much Jen. Appreciate it.

I'm sure glad that these boards are here. We were just in Disney for MNSSHP and did the tour. Now we are convinced we want to buy a piece of the magic. I want to thank everyone who has given their input on the monthly banking issue. We also deal through P.C. but our insurance is through RBC. I know that the monthly payment idea is much better than saving for that once a year cheque.
Not to hijack the thread but we are having a hard time deciding whether to buy SSR or AKV. Any help choosing would be great. Here is our family makeup if that makes a difference in what you would choose.

Hi,
OT sorry... can someone please tell me what happened to the "Points for rent" section under DVC???
I've rented points in the past - great:thumbsup2 and thinking about doing it again. The thread is gone.

Thanks!

Thanks for the information. I wonder if this is a way to get around the "Canadians can't have the Disney VISA because they don't bank in US". That has been a major peeve for us since we would love to have a Disney VISA but we need a US address or SIN. Apparently they have no affiliation with a Canadian bank. Our DVC ownership does not qualify us as having a US address. We've tried all the angles but this may be a new one if the VISA payments are automatically withdrawn from the US/Royal Bank affiliate....

My understanding is that you cannot "see" the Rent/Trade forum unless you are logged on. I just checked and it seems to be there now.
