I have never gone to the weekly DVC meetings. Are they interesting or a waste of valuable vacation time?

I always try to go to the meeting. They are always over before 9:00am and don't really cut into my vacation time that much. I have also met many DIS'ers at the meetings too.

Often, there is some little bit of DVC information that is interesting ... and the breakfast is always good! ;)

Enjoy!

I agree about the breakfast, now if they would only set some tables up.............

We like to go if possible. They have some pretty good danish and rolls for breakfast. Plus I love winning stuff when they ask questions during the presentation.

What if you are staying at a non-DVC resort? Can you just drive over and tell the person at the gate that you are coming for the DVC meeting? I will be at the AKL the day of the meeting at BWV.

Sure, you can attend the meeting even if you aren't staying at a DVC resort. You just can't pool hop. Other than that you can go visit any resort since you are staying on-site.

Where would I find a meeting schedule? I wouldn't mind attending one during my visit in a couple weeks.

I attended a weekly meeting at another timeshare I own.(Not Disney) Actually, to be honest, they gave us TOO much information. They got into how much the price of the timesahre was to resell it, based on the mark-up of the original selling price...he add in all those "freebies" and you are paying the salary of the salespeople, ect. It was very depressing to walk out of there knowing that the second we walked out the door with a signed contract, the timeshare instantly became 30% less in value.

I don't think this would happen with the Disney meeting. Disney is 1st class all the way, and even IF we did overpay for our DVC, they would never lay it all out in front of us, to ruin our vacation.

I have heard Disney has give aways during these meetings, that sounds like so much fun! So much better than just sitting there listening to people complain about certain aspects of the resort and have the manager basically say "too bad" ( like the meeting I went to, I swear half the room left that meeting and got on the phone with a timeshare resaler)

I think I am going to go to one of these meetings, do they offer childcare? My husband may want to come along also.

The meetings are held each week on Tuesday at OKW and Thursday at BWV. They are at 8:00am in the Community Hall at the respective resort. There is no child care provided.

The meetings are loosely structured and generally cover all of the DVC resorts and each of the non-DVC program options. It is designed to give an overview of all of that DVC has to offer. It is not set up to present complaints/suggestions, although comment isn't cut off if the occasional gripe is presented. (There are better venues to present concerns, however.) Dialog about member experiences at DVC and non-DVC resorts is very welcome (and often is rewarded with a logo gift).

The meetings have usually been over before 9:00am, but some guests can stay afterwards if they have questions or want information about add-on purchase.

Enjoy!

They used to have a weekly update at HH but I think they discontinued it (maybe too few members there? It is pretty small). Now they just have the wine and cheese social, for $15. And I don't know if that's every week.

Just curious, what is attendance generally like?

I've never seen an update with fewer than 20 there and most have been in the 40-50 range. Many have been SRO. It's probably best to arrive a little before 8:00am to make sure you get a seat. They are very good about starting promptly.

I was just at the mtg at BWV on 5/29. There was easily 30 people there, a lot of British (almost half the room.) It did appear that some came for the breakfast, you could tell it was free. In order to win prizes, you got a raffle ticket when you signed in. The guy running the show (not sure of name, but for some reason I think it was Ron) mentioned the DIS boards and how he follows them. He made reference to how we DVCers on DIS were wondering why the sales office runs the mtg, blah, blah, blah. They were definitely plugging using your pts at non-DVC places. It seemed to me that the couple of questions that were asked, he basically said that he didn't know the answer and there was no response of I'll check into it and get back to you. My ds enjoyed the beach ball that he got as I was chasing it around the entire time because he was in his stroller and throwing it. Some old lady kept looking at me like I was disrupting the meeting, oh well. I stayed way in the back and did the best I could, my other child was back at the room with dh, throwing up and I thought that I'd give dh a break and take Stitch with me. It was fine, I'm glad I went and will probably go again, but I will say that I didn't learn anything new.
