Definitely sad. When we went in December they were still in use in addition to FP+ and it was nice. I don't personally like FP+ I liked planning the day as we go and grabbing fastpasses when we got to the park. And if we decided to visit another park later in the day we had hope of getting a FP for something there too. Not true with FP+, only one park that's it. Disney wants you to pre-plan every single move you make.
I feel the complete opposite. We would get there about 45-60 minutes prior to rope drop, head straight to TSMM, snatch a FP, ride SB, head over to RnR and ride it then ToT, grab a FP for one of those, head back to TSMM and use the FP there, head to Star Tours, then back to ride RnR and ToT again. All typically before lunch.
I don't see that happening with FP+ but we'll see how it turns out I guess. My biggest gripe is that if I want to go to Epcot you only get one FP+. You're basically throwing away the other 2. If they let us use one on either Soarin' or TT in the morning and then save the other 2 for a park hop later then maybe I would be a bit more positive towards the system.
There's still plenty of time for change between now and October...
