Hi - I have read conflicting reports about pool closures at the Grand Californian. Is anyone there now and can report? We arrive tomorrow.

Thanks!!

I'm following along to hoping to read some reports.

This is what was on mice chat earlier in the week:

Downtown Disney and Disneyland Resort Hotels
Disneyland Hotel Monorail Pool:*Closed through February 8 for refurbishment

Grand Californian Hotel – Storytellers Cafe:*Closed through February 6 for refurbishment.

Grand Californian Hotel – Mickey Pool:Closed through January 21 for refurbishment.

Grand Californian Hotel – Redwood Pool:*Closed through February 3 for refurbishment.

Grand Californian Hotel – Mariposa Pool:*Closed February 4-6 for refurbishment.

Grand Californian Hotel – Mariposa Spa:Closed February 9-11 for refurbishment.

OK… So I just called the Grand Californian Hotel. The CM there told me that The Redwood Pool was only closed from the 19-21.
and the Mariposa Pool would be closed from Feb 4-6, and the Mariposa spa from 9-11.

I asked her to confirm that the slide would be open during my visit and she said it would. I added that my son has been focusing on it and she added that if it was closed we could get a pass to use the slide at the Disneyland pool.
I ended the conversation there, but from the link above, it suggests that that slide will be under construction too.

I am looking forward to just knowing what the heck is really going on.

True! I wonder what this means about the hotel refurb rumors. Since they're doing work in the public places are rooms up next? Would they do such a massive project during the 60th or wait on refurbing rooms until after the 60th?

Wait, I just saw that - the pool at the Disneyland Hotel is closed for refurbishment? WTH? That was part of the point of paying extra to stay there. I'll have to give them a call.

Only the monorail slide pool is closed, which really isn't a swimming pool, it's essentially a landing spot from the slide. The E Ticket and smaller pool should both be open.

I just called and ended up changing my reservation to Paradise Pier. The slides at the Disneyland Hotel are closed until Feb 6th or thereabouts. This is a problem for me because my son has a developmental disability and if he sees the slides and is told he can't go on them, he doesn't have the cognitive ability to understand that. So we rebooked to PP, where the slide is working well.

I am a little upset - I asked why there was nothing on the website about it, and they said since the other pools were open. The thing is, if you have kids who want to go on waterslides, shutting them down is a big deal.

To add to my husband's comment above - the monorail pool is mostly a splash pool for younger ones and in addition to the large and small pool slides landing zones but still missed for sure. I did call the hotel directly and they gave an estimated completion date of early February 5th or 6th as of this time. She did state that it would depend on how quickly they can complete the work.

I definitely can understand the frustration of it though as it did appear last minute and as many guests do resort days or half days it can put a damper on plans.

Thankfully the E ticket and D ticket pools will remain open at the Disneyland Hotel.

I'm glad you were able to change your reservation and I absolutely agree that they should have put it on the website regardless if it's one pool down or not.

It might be helpful to email your comments too as I plan to as well. Though it's just me and DH , I know he loves the pool slide and will miss it however we can find other things to do. Not everyone is so lucky though.

That is true, but the CM I talked to at The Grand Californian's suggestion that we would be able to use the slide at the DLH because the Redwood Slide is closed, isn't really helpful.

I called the DLH to see the specifics of the pool/slide closure. (714) 778-6600 #3

I was told ALL Slides were closed for rehab until Feb 6th.

With the closure guest can use the GCH&PPH Pools.

They were nice about it. I do feel bad, I think they're getting slammed with phone calls about the measles thing. I sometimes feel like an a** because trying to explain that my son isn't a brat, he has a disability which makes it difficult. If there were no slide, that's fine. But if there *is* a slide, he wouldn't understand why he can't use it.

It's a little disappointing because I really was looking forward to the slides with him and I know he would go crazy for the light up headboards (although, maybe it's a blessing, he would probably wake up at night to play with them.) He's also so excited about trains, and I thought the monorail was right outside DLH and we could take it into the park.

It's nopt connected to the resorts like in WDW but it IS close by.

Basically after the DLH oversized Mickey Hat you would walk towards DTD and pass ESPN zone and Rainforest Cafe and the Monorail station is on the left hand side. While it is close , it's not as close as some expect. Since the DLH wasn't originally a Disney property , but a hotel that was later converted into the DLH it's not considered as immersive by some than say the on site properties in WDW where they had the room and built them from the ground up.

I hope you enjoy your trip :)

Cool, good to know!

This is going back over 20 years from when I last stayed at the DLH, but I'm sure it used to be connected, then with the new reno they changed it. Too bad. Maybe next year we'll do WDW and monorail all around!

It was connected a number of years ago. DH and I stayed there for our honeymoon in 1999 and the monorail stop was connected to the hotel. Just after we stayed there, it underwent a construction and in fact part of the hotel was demolished to make way for Downtown Disney which is why the monorail stop is now part of DTD and not the hotel.

What gets me is when we're at the GCH & see the area inside the hotel that they originally built as a monorail platform for stopping off at the GCH. Cast members we talked to years ago said the original plan was indeed to stop inside GCH. Now (or at least a couple years ago) it's just a sitting area. Oh, what could have been!

It's hard to picture, but the monorail used to stop in the DL parking lot and Tomorrowland. The monorail didn't move, but the parking lot stop is now on the end of Downtown Disney (which has built up around it).

I would have loved a GCH stop too -- kind of like the Contemporary!

It used to be back in the 80's, but they did a massive refurbishment (adding another tower or two) which caused them to have to break it away from the monorail.
