Are the packages really a good deal?

Are the Costco or Dreams Unlimited packages are truly good deals or if you're better off booking things separately. It seems to me that if for some reason you had to cancel that it would be better if it would've been done separately since most places allow you to cancel if 48hours notice is given whereas a cancellation fee would be charged with a package deal. Does anyone have any experience or input on that?:)

The first time we went as a family to DLR, I booked through getawaytoday. Since then I have always done the math and have come out ahead booking everything separately. A lot of this has to do with going off-season when I can get deals on hoppers and with getting the Ent rate at the HoJo or a last minute deal at a resort hotel on Expedia.

Dangermouse, where do you find deals on park hoppers? I am looking for 4 day park hoppers for Oct.

Thanks for your reply - that's what I thought! I never thought about booking at Hojos (which is one of the places I'm considering) and then trying to get a DIS hotel last minute by booking with Expedia and then cancelling the Hojos so thanks for the tip!

We did four trips booked with packages (the first was a free one from work), two from Disney and one through Costco. Our last trip in June we bought the PH separately and got the entertainment rate for HoJo's and the price could not be beat. I will probably never go back to booking packages, or be back to one of the three resorts (unless I win the lottery ;) )

I'm sure you could do better booking seperatly, but I like the convience of booking through Costco. I do book our airfare separatly though.

There are exceptions of course but In general, I have found them to be good deals if you are already booking exactly what the package offers anyway. But I have found better deals booking in other hotels and then buying everything separately.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info! I would rather book separately so I'm glad it's a better deal. I too didn't know that you could get discounts on the park hoppers, but we'll be getting the CityPass anyways.

Thanks everyone! Now, I'll just hold out for an entertainment rate and a 4th night free promo!!:)
