I like the idea of them as they seem Disney old skool from the 1970s.

Not aure if they will be operating as i am due to go first week in september on a weekday

My family loves them. I enjoy the view from the canoes, even if I'm not fond of the rowing. ;)

I think a lot of it depends on the CM leading your group.

I love Davy's Explorer Canoes - always have. Being right down on the water you get a unique perspective on the activity around and within ROA. I like the rowing too (makes me feel I've earned my next churro.) If they are running when you visit - then give it a whirl - where else can you paddle a canoe and share the river with a steamboat and a pirate ship?

The canoes are pretty hilarious and not to be missed, at least for one shot. We are east coasters, and they do not have these at MK. SO we HAD to try them at DL.

The canoes seem to be running very infrequently. I did see them training CMs over the Memorial Day weekend, but I don't recall actually seeing the canoes operating. By September, my guess is that at best they might be running for Labor Day weekend (which happens to also be a Marathon weekend), but not on the weekdays and probably not even on the weekend in most cases.

I've done the canoes three times. The first time I had a wonderful canoe guide that kept us laughing the entire time. The next two times were not quite as funny, but still fun. One minor annoyance on the last ride - the child behind me kept splashing me with water because she was dragging her paddle. I definitely recommend giving them a try if they are open.

It is one of those things you should try once! I always thought they looked so fun and so pretty going down the river. I always wanted to do it, but we thought it probably was not a good idea to try to confine our very active DD to a rowboat on the water when she was little... or to hand her a paddle. When DD was 7, we decided she was old enough to try the rowing and the line was short enough that we decided to finally give them a try. I remember loving them on my one Disneyland trip as a child, and was really excited about getting to do them again.

We started out and it was so fun and wonderful... then about 3 minutes passed, and we quickly realized that it was work. Then lots of people around us started realizing it was work. By the time we were about halfway there, we were so ready for it to end as were all the people around us. Apparently we were on a boat of wimps! :rotfl: DD was also having trouble keeping her rowing in sync, which led to clunks and splashes here and there. We had some real camaraderie going with the people around us as we were all complaining in a hilarious manner and joking about how it looked so fun and easy and we were all tired and our arms hurt and we were dying and thought we might just float awhile as the CM was yelling (in a funny playful manner) for everyone to row or we were never going to get back around and weren't going to get to have any more fun at Disneyland because we would be stuck on the river. It was fun and I loved the perspective and views of everything from the canoe...but we aren't in a hurry to do it again...we are good for a while. I will just watch the pretty fun looking boats and take pictures of them. If you are outdoorsy and love rowing or other outdoor physical activity and exercise, you might absolutely love it. I thought I would, but apparently I was far too lazy and spoiled by rides where you just sit and don't have to anything to want to exert myself while at DL!

You should definitely give them a try, but we warned that you might get a little wet, depending on who you are sitting behind!

We have spent 17 days in the parks in the last 3.5 years (Oct, Dec and 2 weeks ago/May). We have never seen them running and it is something I really want to be able to do! I remember being on them as a child and would love my family to experience them. I don't anticipate a summer trip for us, so it may not be something we ever get to try. Makes me sad, though!

During the summer they usually are open daily and then in the off season if they are open it's on the weekends.

I adore them.

But then I used to row (though a canoe is vastly different than what I was in) and often think of themepark days as exercise anyway.

If DH ever got a job in Anaheim I would very much apply for a job as a canoe guide.

We were watching them over the past weekend. Was hilarious to hear the guide say "On the count of 3, we row. 1" then everyone starts rowing as he gives them the look of shame.

I took my teens on them for the first time during the 24 hour party last week. They thought they were fun, but probably not something they're going to add to their "must do" list. I just figured since we had so much time, we might as well do EVERYTHING!

We go canoeing several times a year...we'll give this a shot at least once just to be able to say we went canoeing in Disney (I adore canoeing and love paddling for hours). I bet it's going to be...interesting.

This is very true, and it is not just kids that will soak you either, it is anyone who gets out of sync. It can come from in front of you, or even the person behind you. There was a lady by me who splashed me several times. My side was pretty wet by the time we got off the canoe. Every time, she would do it she would start apologizing over and over and we were laughing so hard it made it even worse to stay in sync. I'm pretty sure there was no one who rowed regularly anywhere near us on the boat- maybe not even in our boat. We were a pretty pathetic crew!

This is an attraction I often times forget about it, but always have fun doing! I would recommend it as a filler attraction, but not if there's a huge wait. The rowing can get tiring, but the views are nice!

We have never tried the Davy Crockett canoes before since we have our own canoe that we use for our camping trips. But on our next visit, we wanted to try them. Where do you canoe to? And I am assuming that these canoes do not tip? :-)

We once did the canoes and both my cousin and I dropped our oars in the water at the same time (accidentally) and the CM told everyone now we were going to be forced to row in a circle. It was pretty hilarious. Not sure if they are attached to the canoe now.
