Are the crowds really smaller this year?

I keep reading that the crowds are not as bad this year and attendance is down. Can someone who has been there recently verify this? We are going during Christmas week which is always mob city, but can I hope for a little less than the worst experience I ever had? They have already cancelled the reason we made these plans for December ( Osbourne Lights), so I need a bit of help in finding the bright side!:( :Pinkbounc

Just got back last week. Crowds seemed higher to me than other summers; thy extended hours at MK from 10:00 to 11:00 on 8/5 with an extra SpectroMagic- not announced on the web site or on the park hours handed out.

Just back this morning and the crowds are much more than what I have seen previously.

It must be the Fairytale Package!

I agree...the crowds in MK were pretty unmanageable last week. The other parks were better.

We were there from 8/2 to 8/12, and it was crowded. But with fastpass and early entry we did a lot. And some days the crowds were sparse. When we were at POR we took the boat ride to DD, and the captain told us that they are going to be done with the FQ renovations before Christmas because they are expecting the biggest Christmas crowd in 5 years. It was supposed to take 2 years, but they will be done in 8 to 12 weeks.

I have to agree with everyone else, crowds were a lot heavier the last week of July this year than they were last year. But as mentioned, use FastPass and get there early.

Just back (8/2-8/13/03), crowds were much heavier than last year at the same time. When checking in at POR, CM said that the resort was fully booked....they were quite pleased to be filled up. As mentioned in as earlier post, on 8/5, MK stayed open until 11pm and there were 2 Spectro parades (instead of the 10 pm closing listed on the published 8/3-8/9 "times guide" distributed at the resorts and the parks) . CM at POR said that decisions to extend hours were made a day ahead...if the anticipated crowds were heavy (and if there was not an ENight scheduled), they would extend the hours....she also mentioned that since there had been quite a bit of rain during the days, she thought they were trying to add hours to accomodate the guests.

As expected, we found the crowds much heavier in the park that had EMH. On our first visits to MK, AK and MGM we went on EMH days and the crowds were heavy.....we were going to hop to another park, but thought the crowds would be heavy everywhere (since we were hearing that overall attendence was way up) so we stayed put. On our return visits, we went on non-EMH days and found the crowds much lighter. In retrospect, we should have gone for EMH and hopped to another park about about 10am.

Would this be an indicator that there wont be discount codes out for March this year?

Well, thanks for the warning. I guess I was expecting it but keeping my fingers crossed. Now I will have to do some major planning!
We have rented a vacation home since there are sooo many of us (22). What are the chances of us being denied admission to the parks? I am really having a hard time deciding which tickets to get.
