I just picked up a travel size bug spray for our trip and it was $8! I'll need to get a big bottle if the bugs are bad

any experience with those pocket fans? I was going to buy the water mist ones but they were huge and heavy so I got small two bladed fans that should fit in our purses.

I have been to Disney twice in August and have never noticed bugs.

There are no bugs at Disney. The invisible dome keeps them out.

Seriously, though there are very few bugs at Disney in general. You might find some areas that are exceptions, like close to water or maybe at the more wooded campgrounds, but overall, they do an excellent job of keeping bugs out. We have never needed bug spray at Disney and we've been going for 20 years.

:rotfl2: does it work for mother in laws?

This exactly!:thumbsup2 The only time I noticed them in Aug a few years ago was when we were near 7 Seas Lagoon at night.

Been going in August since around 2006. Use to carry bug spray in our "Disney Bag" every year, back and forth but never, ever had to use it. Finally, I just stopped bringing it! Honestly, I don't think you will need it.

Now, as a second thought, I don't know what it's like to stay at the camp grounds but if you are not staying there then no worries:)

We head down to DW for a week or two every August. I've never seen a bug.....outside that is. ;)

I don't think I have ever seen a bug at Disney, ever. I have always wondered if I'm breathing in tons of bug killer when I'm there. I've seen lizards and snakes, but no bugs.

I'm here now and we all get bug bites. Sat on the balcony last night and got several new bites. You have to watch the yellow fly as those bites are bad. My daughter got several bites and they are swollen and had to go to first aid for some anti itch meds. We are heading out for some spray today. Btw we are at the beach club if that helps. We have seen 2 large black snakes the last couple of days. Last night it slithers right in front of us on our way to the store to refill our drinks. If there are no bugs in August maybe we should change from May to August

returning $8 trial size of bug spray, thank you!

snakes, yeah, I don't do snakes. who let them in the dome?

When we had a ground floor room at Beach Club we found a small snake in the bathroom. They came and got it...after a few phone calls...

There arw always bugs in Fl.The black snakes are called Black rasers and.are very fast and harmless. They like to eat the bugs and mice so if you see them.its a good thing. Get some Off and some calamine .Not much.you can do .We don't have no bug season here maybe Jan and Feb. If we are lucky

Not only are the bugs bad in August, but so are the bees!! Especially at Animal Kingdom Lodge. We will never travel to WDW again in August for just these reasons.

Ok this will sound stupid but don't yall have bugs up north? I am a Native or.is it just a Fl thing. Also June 1 through Nov 30 is Hurricane season so I would suggest getting insurance and yes Disney will close if the.storm is close but it is rare

we have bugs in spurts it seems, like black fly season. We have mosquitos. But I'm also not outside for 12 hrs at a clip like I will be at Disney. I guess I pictured Florida having more because of the heat and humidity. Glad I kept the bug spray, lol.

I think it depends on where you stay on property. Someone said beach club has them bad, well it's right in front of a lake and has a canal that runs under part of it.
Animal Kingdom Lodge and Ft. Wilderness are in the woods pretty much, so there's that. I stayed near the MK and had no probs. This was mid Aug 2 years ago. It's never been a problem in the parks, I guess it depends on where you stay though.

Yes I've seen snakes there (a large cottonmouth a few trips back), and other smaller ones in the past.

It's Florida, it happens. As far as the bugs, if packing your 8$ can of bug spray makes you feel more comfortable then do it. Have a nice trip!:)

We went in June last year and I remember people saying the Flies were unbelievable. When we got there a week after it was first reported, we hardly saw any flies.

The biggest for us was at Animal Kingdom, but never bad enough that we had to wear any type of bug spray.

One thing we saw all over the place were lizards. Mostly running around at the resort and a few in the parks as well. Minimal bugs though.

Hey there OP, have you visited the Team August thread yet? If not, come on over and join in the conversation....we're all travelling in August so we're having a little fun while we count down together:

Some of us have been to August multiple times, other folks are August newbies. Everyone is welcome and there are some great ideas and tips being shared!

We do have bugs....but not the kind you get in the south. We don't have the roaches that seem to be prevalent in Florida (thank the Lord! :scared:) or those gigantic palmetto bugs. Our bugs are seasonal (spring is bad....the black flies in rural areas can almost eat you alive) and generally pretty small in size.

OP, we have travelled twice in August, and have never been bothered by bugs. lol, I think its too hot even for them :rotfl: . I am certain you can return the bug spray with no regrets.
