We had a few CMs tell us this when we were there 2 weeks ago. I wondered if this always holds true? We don't want to go when it is crazy even if we only go to 1 or 2 parks.
Well, we were there April 9th thru April 17th and it was very NOT crowded until Friday, I assume because of the Garden & Flower Festival. I was amazed at how quiet it was, but it was great. I was told that because Easter was so early this year, there was a 2 week lull and then it would be crazy again!!!! Who can figure this out???? Certainly, not me.
I had the same experience as WOW. We were there the exact same time! The crowds were minimal - and the weather perfect. Up until Friday we didn't have to wait in line much at all for anything.
Friday at Epcot surprised me with how busy it was. Yuch - I had been spoiled all week. By Sunday th 17th 400 some people had checked into OKW.
When we checked in it was at 42% capacity. I have no idea what it was when we left on the 17th - but the pool was totally mobbed.
The week before and the week after Easter are always the most crowded at WDW because many schools do schedule their Spring Breaks around when Easter is, however, many school breaks are spread out through March and April. Our district has break the last week of March every year. Sometimes it co-insides with Easter but usually does not. If you have a choice, I would get as far away from Easter as I could without running into another holiday. We have always been against taking our kids out of school for vacation, however, we just started homeschooling the younger 2 and the older 2 will be joining us after this school year ends. I am psyched about being able to plan further trips without having to worry about the school calendar
When you say the two weeks following Easter, I assume you mean the weeks that begin with the Sunday that is 7 days after Easter since the week of Easter is packed to the gills. Usually those two weeks are medium crowded -- it is just that in comparison to Easter they are like no crowd at all (but then the same thing can be said about most of the busy summer weeks).
The week following easter sunday of course is always still very busy. the weekend after easter sunday everyone starts to go home. the week following that week is slow and the week after that is slow. one time we were in wdw for easter and a few days following easter sunday, we left and went down to marco island and that weekend (sunday)we started back to wdw it was not crowded, we even stayed a few more days and actually was very nice.
spring break starts President week in Feb and use to go to the middle of April - lately another survey now puts spring break until the first week in May.
It completely depends upon how many students have off that week and which of these students will go to WDW vs other places.
during this time my nephew gets 2 weeks off the 3rd week in Feb - winter break and the second week in April - spring break.
WDW has a good view - if the park hours are extended (longer than the normal hours of the MK) - watch out...especially if WDW extends them a week or two before you leave. (even they can be wrong - or they won't need to extend their hours at the last minute).
you can look at this in 2 ways - either you are going to be crowded - or since WDW extended the hours - go with it - go the parks in the morning (if you feel like it) - then leave when the crowds gets too much for you or the heat does - then come back later that evening - 4, 5 or 6 pm. if the MK park hours goes to midnight - then you can come back in the evening hours - when the park is less crowded and much, much colder.
Last week - 4/18 - 4/22 - was spring break for many areas of the Northeast especially NYS & Massachusetts. Believe me, it was crowded in the parks! It reminded me of the year we were at WDW the week before Easter & the year we were at WDW the week between Christmas & New Year's. The only reason I was there last week was it was spring break for the folks with us. We had a great time despite the crowds.
April 17 to 23 While MK was crowded on Wednesday, an EMH night, I really didn't think that MGM or Epcot were crowded on our visits there. On Monday, we got a place for Illuminations just 30 minutes early next to the American Pavillion and were able to hear the Davy Jones concert very well.
Depends on what your definition of crowded is. Epcot had tons of people on the 15th, but the lines weren't bad. MK was much more crowded. Sunday(17) at the MK was even worse. Thankfully FP plus choosing when to ride keeps waits less than 15 minutes. The beginning of May will be about as crowded as listed below, with a possible slow down at the end of May. Check out Touringplans.com for free estimate on what days are busy.
