Are teens feet getting bigger?

My DDs are only 11 and 12 and one wears the same sized shoes as me. The other wears bigger shoes than me. They are both already as tall as me too. They've started stealing my clothes already.

I've been the same size since 8th grade (wish I could say that about more than just my shoes! :rotfl:) so I'm not surprised to hear about girls that age with adult-sized feet. They likely just got their growing done early. But boys... I thought my son was a big kid, wearing a 12 at 14yo, but he's got a friend who has been passing his cleats along to DS in the off season because he's a steady 2 sizes ahead!

If kids are getting bigger my girls are bucking the trend... DD11 is still wearing girls' shoes and clothes, much to her frustration, and DD4 is going to be 5 before she hits 40".

My feet reached a size 10 when I was about 13. That was as big as you could get in women's shoes back in the late 80s, so if a pair was too tight, it was just too bad, out of luck.

These days, size 11 is pretty common, though it seems to be the first size to sell out! I'm glad for it, because now I can easily go up a size if 10s are too tight.

My son is 18, 6'1 and wears a size 16 shoe. I managed to find a pair of sneakers in his size on sale for $39 online and I was so happy! I hope his feet are done growing.

Oh man! Thats a big foot! Have you also looked at Zappos? I hope for your sake his feet are done growing also. :rotfl:

I can relate.. as an adult now .. my feet is the same size as some of the kids I know in grade 6.... shoe size 9

I wear a size 7 to 8, depending on the type of shoe and years ago I would have a hard time finding a popular style in my size...lots of gals back then were about the same size. My daughter, on the other hand, wears a size 9 or 10 and my son is in a 12 or 13.
Quite a while back, in a discussion with a friend we talked about the change in shoe sizes in our kids and she told me she thought it was due to hormones that are fed to animals in our diet. You know, cows, pigs, chickens, etc. Her family raised chickens and turkeys for consumption and she said the general public would be surprised at the hormones the animals are given to fatten them up for eating.
Kind of makes sense to me...

I have heard this as well............

My son's dad wears a size 14, so I think it is genetic in his case....

We are a family of big feet too! My husband is a 14 and my daughters (21 & 19) are both 12's. I have had luck shopping in Big & Tall shops for my husband and plus size sites for my girls. At least the shoes don't look orthpaedic! Socks have been a challenge too! I have to look for the extended sizes and the selection isn't great.:confused3

WOW! My 12 yr old is only in a size 3 in kids!! I only wear a 6.5.

The hard part for me after my son got past a size 13 was finding the higher sizes in a medium width. It seems like most manufacturers assume a long foot is a wide foot. I wear a size 8 and I can put my foot in DS' shoes with my shoes on:lmao: Funny thing is they look HUGE sitting on the floor, but not on his feet. He is tall and broad shouldered, so they match him.

I am amazed at some of the sizes of my teens' friends' feet, and even my own kids' feet!

One of DS's friends wore a size 15 at age 13. Another is a size 13 at age 14. And they are still growing!

I don't remember my own teen friends having feet that big when I was growing up, but maybe I was just unaware. :confused3

And girls are no exception. In middle school some of them were already wearing size 11s.

Anyone else notice this trend? Wondering how stores will handle this as selections are slim in some of the bigger sizes, "special orders" being necessary much of the time.

I wear a size 10/11.

I don't know if it is a trend or not

But I knew other girls with big feet. They were usually much taller. I'm only 5'5". My 13yo is about an 8 or 9 depending on the shoe. Because of my own big feet, I never thought about it and wouldn't be surprised if she ended up my size.

Historically, I think humans feet are getting bigger. Ever go to an historical exhibit of clothing? The shoes ALL seem tiny to me.

I wore a 6.5 before kids. Now I wear a 7 or 7.5.

DD14 wears a 6.5 women's and has stayed the same for about a year now.

DS12 wears a 7 kids.

DS7 wears a 13 or a 1 kids.
