Are reservations a must?

For restaurants such as whispering canyon or the plaza? Going for a short trip at the end of august and staying at WL. While I am trying to get BOG reservations, I would rather not set a time in stone for most of our meals. What are the chances of walk up being accepted?

Also how easy is it to take Trail's end back to WL? Thinking that may be a good option for one of our nights. Are there other easy "take out" places at or near WL?

The days of walkups being easy are sadly over for the most part. For example, I just tried to get reservations for The Plaza, Beaches & Cream and Grand Floridian Cafe, all for lunch which is usually a good resort restaurant time, for early November (checked 5 different days) and got squat. Remember Free Dining starts 8/28 AND LTT is currently closed making the other MK restaurants busier.

never been to WL but Plaza is always busy - unless someone cancels last minute or doesnt show up i wouldn't count on getting seated without an ADR.

You'd certainly have more luck at Whispering Canyon than the Plaza, but why risk it?

Please - even for Whispering Canyon - GET AN ADR. Sandy and I have breakfast at WC every morning of our trips... 2 per year for a good 12 years. We book a reservation for ALL of these.

Walk ups do get in - but the wait can easily be 45 minutes plus. We've seen many sad families discover this the hard way.... .

I agree, sadly you have to have ADR for everything now. You'll get used to working around it. Last June we tried to do several walk ups and were turned away over and over. I learned the hard way and had to do counter service more times than I would like.

Whispering Canyon was one that we tried to do everyday for lunch. No luck. This year I have the ADR.

Definitely get reservations! The Plaza is rather small, so I don't see walking up easily there. I think you may have a better chance at WC, but if it is someplace you REALLY want to eat, get a ressie or you may be disappointed.
