Just curious is refurbs are ever shorter than expected? I know some take longer than others depending on how detailed, but do they ever finish ahead of schedule?

Sure. Sometimes.

At Disneyland, not in about the last 5 years or so, they have gotten it down to a pretty exact science. On a rare occasion they will take longer though.

The exception to this is when the Refurb is a major redo of an attraction, such as Star Tours. In those cases they will do Soft Openings earlier.

Depends how you count then. In June Matterhorn was scheduled to be down Monday-Friday and to re-open Saturday. We were at the parks Thursday-Saturday that week. But I Matterhorn opened on Friday and I heard rumors they were open Thursday too but did not see it myself. So in that case they did open early...

In general I agree that it is not that common.
