Are PMs posting to the New Profile Posts stream?

On the main page, when I look at the New Profile Posts, it looks like I am reading PMs between members that include information like hotel room numbers, private email addresses, etc, that I don't know should be publicly available. I also don't think these people even know it is happening??

If you post a message to someone's profile, it is visible to everyone. The old software worked the same way.

For a PRIVATE message, you need to "start a conversation" now.

I don't think they realize it's posting publicly either. But messages to profiles were never private.
