Are people still buying/using flameless candles?

There was a thread a while back about flameless candles - real wax candles that have battery operated flickering lights inside, rather than an actual flame. Many people said they bought them.

I am about to purchase them for the holidays, and hardly any websites seem to carry them anymore. :confused3 QVC, which had a huge selection of sets and sizes when I looked several months ago, only has one or two sets with the remote controller, which is what I wanted.

Were these just a quick fad? Did people's flameless candles stop working? Did all the QVC shoppers buy enough and as you don't need to replenish these as with regular candles, there just aren't enough customers for QVC to restock them? :confused3

If you bought a set that has a remote, is yours still working? Does it end up turning on & off the TV instead?

I recently bought some on clearance at Bed Bath and Beyond, I really like them. Also in Costco's last coupon circular they had a set

I use them for the look and my Scentys for the smell and then don't worry so much about burning the house down

I had glade ones but they were battery eaters ;) i rarely use them now

This is what drives me crazy.. Whether it's the flameless candles or the plug-in air fresheners or whatever (in those particular categories).. They come out with something new (that you usually have to purchase some kind of container or what not for an arm and a leg that will hold the refills) and then when you go to buy refills, guess what? They don't sell them anymore! Now they have come out with a new container - which of course the old refills won't fit in..:headache:

I've about given up on that stuff.. I just use regular scented candles here at the lake - and nice scented sprays back at DD's (her DH prefers no candles due to their cat jumping up on things)..

Glad you were able to get some refills on clearance though..:goodvibes

I have a cat, too. which is why I am interested in the flameless candles. I figured I'll have to invest in rechargable batteries.

I have bought a number of flameless candles from QVC and just love them :lovestruc ... I don't have any remote controlled ones though ... I buy the ones with the timers ... I can either put them on/off manually, or set the timer and they go on the same time every night and then turn themselves off usually after 5 hours ... actually the batteries last pretty long for me too ...

I sure hope QVC isn't going to stop selling them :sad1: ... maybe their inventory is low right now due to their popularity? ... I sure hope that is the case ... QVC has been my go-to place for flameless candles for awhile now :goodvibes ...

The candles I bought are completely self contained, they have an on/off switch and use those flat lithium batteries. We bought them several months ago along with a spare pack of batteries and so far so good, we have not replaced batteries but I would say we use them about 10 hours a week.

My Auntie has a house full of the QVC ones and hers all have built in timers, every evening they come on to set the mood for the cocktail hour :lmao: she has not complained about the battery life, I'll have to ask her.

My DH tends to put candles in places that make me crazy nervous (book shelves etc) or where the cats get curious, these have eliminated the flame worry. I even let DD have one in her bedroom and I grabbed a set of the Costco ones for DS's "house" for Christmas, I'm sure his two girl roomies will like them, he probably won't care, he is afterall a boy!

I bought a package of four vanilla-scented columns in Costco last week. I love them! They look much nicer out of the box and lit then they do boxed up in the store. They came with batteries, but I'll use my own rechargeables since I have a decent supply of them in the house due to DS's XBox controllers.

Target also sells some very nice ones in their housewares section, plus they now have holiday themed ones.

I bought quite a few two years ago for myself and as gifts although at the time I do not think they had remote ones. I still use mine and love them, I find the batteries last quite a while. I have to go to QVC now and see what they have incase they are phaseing them out I need to pick up more

I recently bought some on clearance at Bed Bath and Beyond,

The few sets left at QVC also appeared like they might be clearancing them. :( I keep wondering if I'm missing something about them, that these places are clearancing them?

Like is there a new version coming out that I should wait for? Will they be Clapper operated, and all I have to do is clap them on & off? :lmao:

:lmao: Great use for them. :thumbsup2

We finally got our first Target in Manhattan. :thumbsup2
The problem is, it's in the absolute worst neighborhood: Spanish Harlem. I sometime wonder if shoppers get mugged of their purchases on the way back to the subway. :scared1:

Try looking at Target on-line, but if you have access to a Costco, you can't beat what they're selling in the warehouse right now.

The set of 4 is $20, so $5 for each candle. I'm going to go back and get another box to separate for small Christmas gifts. I can't imagine anybody not loving one. They look fantastic lit up. I have two in the living room, one on the dining room table and the other is a nightlight in DS's room that I put on the timer switch. After 5 hours (I think), it turns off to conserve the battery.

I saw some a week or so ago at Sam's Club. I recall thinking they were a pretty good price, and they came with one set of replacement batteries as well.

Walmart has 2 sizes. 4" and 6" white ones. Great prices $3 and $5 each. No batteries included. Sams Club has a nice vanilla scent 3 pack for $14.99 with batteries. I like mine so far.:) No remotes though.

Flameless candles from QVC are great! My son uses them all the time! He is 17 and has Down Syndrome- fire in his room would be dangerous. he loves them!

I have several types from Target. They're awesome. Excellent battery life and nice designs, multiple sizes, etc. They don't come with a remote, but they do have 4hr timers built in. I keep some in the kitchen (plain cream colored), some in the sunroom (outdoorsy with twigs built into the wax - lit right now :) ) and even one outside on the screen porch (wildflowers built into the wax). I keep them on a simple plate - the kitchen plate has rocks on it, too. I was thinking of getting some of these for XMas presents, too.

I like the video. :lmao:

I think my cat would have a field day if I left one on the table. She likes to sniff things. If she figured out how to turn one on & off, she might be playing with one all day.

Janice, I'll take a look at Target online. That's a great price. :goodvibes

The Target holiday display had figurine-like flameless candles. They are small and cute snowmen, penguins, Santas, etc. I saw them in the store display, and I must say that I liked them. :) Very cute! If they go on sale, I'll buy a few.

Bumping this up to say that I clipped a nice ($2.00 I think) coupon for a package of Duracell Rechargeable batteries. The coupon is in this weekend's newspaper in the coupon flyer.

These things are the bomb and perfect for flameless candles. Just plug them in in the morning and by that evening, they'll be ready to burn for weeks. We use these Duracell Rechargeables in DS's wireless XBox controllers and digital cameras too.
