Are or aren't alarm clocks in rooms?

I keep seeing threads recommending you bring alarm clocks and then I've seen other threads stating that was not necessary because there are nautical clocks in the room with alarm. So could somebody please clarify this? If there is no alarm clock I would definintely want to bring a little travel one.

Last cruise we were on (Dec 2002-Magic) there was in fact a nautical alarm clock in the room. I don't know if it's a WORKING alarm clock  as we never used it!
If we needed to wake up at a certain time we just had a wake up call from MICKEY which is who calls when you request a wake up call!

I always bring a travel clock with me. I wear contacts and could not see that nautical clock if you paid me! I bring a little one and keep it under my pillow!;)

There was a nautical clock (I don't know if it was an alarm one or not either) in my parents cabin (cat. 6) but NOT in our two cabins (cat. 10). I bring my own also because it's lite and I need to see what time it is when I wake in the night.

Oh so this would explain the disparity in answers if there are clocks only in rooms of certain categories. Thanks for the responses! I guess I will just let Mickey wake us up since I'd rather hear him than a clock buzzing anyway. ;)

not to sound totally stupid...but...
What is this nautical alarm clock? is it something that you have to wind? I dont do so well with those-we were on a management retreat and I forgot my pager (has an alarm on it) and had set 3 of them to make sure at least one would go off and another to be able to know what time it was...
Please explain!

The "nautical" clock is descriptive nothing more. The clock in our cabin was shaped like a propeller (prop). They also sold them in one of the shops on board ship. I never relied on it as I too bring a lighted travel alarm clock so i can see it in the dark.

Our batteries in ours started going out a few days before the end of the cruise - we didn't use it so we didn't care - but you will want to make sure it works before you use it. Maybe set it and also do the wake up on the phone the first time. I would just use the wake up call on the phone but brought a clock so it could sit next to me on the bed and then I didn't have to wake up eveyrone by turning on the lights to see what time it was.

I just might have to share this bit of information with Mike, LOL!!!

The TV is also an alarm clock and quite easy to set.

We usually leave it on the view from the bridge channel which has music and let it wake us in the am.

We had a cat. 11 and there was a clock. I bring my own because it is illuminated. The inside rooms are very dark.

i just love the little note next to their clock. It mentions that you can buy it in the gift shops!

and yes the clock works, I use it on the last morning to make sure I don't oversleep. Like who wants to get off the ship??

Cute wasn't how I would describe it -
My clock spent the whole cruise tucked inside the cabinet wrapped in the extra blanket - the ticking made me crazy. Guess it goes to show just how quiet the staterooms are. See, one man's bounty is another's complaint!

To know the time, I bought a $4 illuminated clock.

To set an alarm, we called for Mickey and I used the speaker phone to wake everyone. By the way, the recording keeps playing as long as you stay on the line - trust me it took lots of Mickey minutes to wake the kids on the last day,

Professorandmom that sounds like me! If I find I can't sleep at night (which does happen if I am not home sleeping in my own bed) the littlest noise will drive me crazy...especially the ticking of a clock. Hmmmm I am starting to think I will bring my own illuminated one so I can see what hour of the wee morning I will be tossing & turning and hiding that nautical one inside the cabinet too! Though I must agree they are cute! Thanks for the picture atigeg!
