I remember reading about human nature & how left lines are usually longer than right lines .....or are lines on the right usulally longer than left lines? I can't remember?! Anybody out there know this tid bit of trivia?
We tried this and went left every time last trip, food lines, rides, shows and it was always better. We even got our own boat on POC, when the other 10 people entering with us went right.
This was mentioned in Birnbaum. My cousins used to go by the book, and I picked it up from them. So now we have a catch-phrase, "Birnbaum says go left!"
The problem is that this aspect of human nature is so well-known that sometimes so many people are deliberately going the "other" way that the queues to the left end up longer. The advantage of going left is pretty-much neglible these days.
We also head left when we enter the parks. It may not always work to our advantage but it's kind of become a superstition to us. Not that we put any stock in superstitions...........

We did the whole "go left" motto this trip... haha... Everytime we tried the left line idea...the left line was 2x as long. We were like.. Right side it is! lol So... it appears everyone is cutting against the grain now? So we just eyeball the lines as we approach.
The Unofficial Guide claims that there is no noticable difference in going left or right. They said that they tested the theory many times and found the waits to be too close to tell a difference. They also mentioned Disney's hi-tech ways of monitoring and filtering guests where they want them in order to keep levels balanced.....very interesting.
I believe the original idea was that people, in general, travel on foot the way they would in a car... so for Americans we tend to go to the right staying on the "right side of the road." I suppose the Brits would gravitate to the left. I've done the "to the left" anytime we have that option, not sure it has ever blatantly backfired but it does reduce the waffling factor.
