Are EMH days at MK really that bad??

Have planned to spend MIL's birthday with family at Magic Kingdom on Friday 27 May, with evening meal and Spectromagic a must. This date turns out to be an early Extra Magic Hours date.

I gather looking around the forums that they can get much busier than a "normal" day Has anyone any experience of EMH dates please?

EMH mornings are great...IF you get there when the park opens! Otherwise, everyone else has a head start on you!

Friday May 27 is the start of a holiday weekend here in the States, so the MK will probably be a little more crowded than a "normal" Friday. My opinion is: get there in time for EMH, take a mid-day break if it's too crowded, then come back at night for your meal and Spectro.
