Are Disney Packages worth it?

here's what i did...

i priced the package thru waltdisneyworld.com and then i priced the components individually (thru various vendors, not just thru wdw) and made a spreadsheet so i could compare "apples" to "apples" and was all set to book each component individually and then the 5+2 deal came out and it blew all my individual components away, so that's what i went with... the only thing i did not purchase w/my package was my airfare and my rental car, those i purchased separately...

the first step, imo, is to figure out what you need (hoppers? plusses? uph's? 1 room? 2? suite? value? mod? etc...) and then price them all different ways and see which way gives you the best value...

I did the 5+2 deal also and I am so happy I did.

For $1120 I got 7 nights at th POP and unlimited park hoppers for my daughter and I. I booked my flight seperate too. I paid less than $200 for 2 tickets on Spirit. I am not renting a car becase there is SO much to see and do in the parks. I did not decide yet how we will get to/from airport....mears maybe....might go towncar...I don't know. So, $1320 for a week is awesome! I am so excited.

You've really got to do your homework, know what you are looking for, and shop around for prices before you can decide if a package is right for you.

For our last trip, even though we weren't considering a "package" per se, we still did a spreadsheet of sorts comparing the prices of different resorts, including offsite and onsite, different ticket options, etc. It really helped us to know where the $$ would be going and what we could afford.

If you are not prone to wanting to do a lot of "homework" and shop around, then you are probably best to just go to a good travel agent and get a package....................P

They come out every summer around May - there was also an August special - is it worth it? Depends on what you want to do and how old the kids are.... for little ones - no. For 10+ YES -- just for the unlimited access to all parks for the length of stay. Your EXHAUSTED if you try to do *everything* - I would carefully consider what you are doing everyday. There isnt much sense to do three parks in a day.

Will I do it again? Maybe in 10 years, but my 18 year old DD and 10 year old son both agree that we dont need to do a vacation with all the parks again for a long long time.

We would only stay onsite again to take advantage of Eride night. We would be more inclined to stay on site at universal to take advantage of FOTLA - we had fun there. If we had to stand in line we would have been miserable.

My kids love rides - not princesses and parades.

Another plus by booking with Disney...I only had to pay a $200 deposit on our vacation and I have been chipping away at it when I can. I am a single mom on a limited income so this has been the perfect thing for me. I never thought I could afford to go to Disney, but this has been fantastic! I will be all paid up in a few weeks...yippee!

another suggestion...

get a disney visa if you are planning a disney vacation... they often make offers that you cannot get anywhere else... we just missed out on a 4+3 (similar to the 5+2 but cheaper!) which was offered this past april...

I did my home work and 5 for 7 just could not be beat. Booked in June applied for Disney Visa same time I have $74.00 (free money /credit) to spend in that short time. Always pay bal. off but hay 74.oo will help family of 5 with a meal or most of it. I like the fact we can come and go as we please DS,MP,all water parks, disney parks. I would book straight through Disney I like to to able to talk to cast members myself about trip and I like making the changes and checking prices besides Disney keeps sending welcome letters in neat envelopes kids know where they are comming from just neat seeing them run to get the mail I like to (have total control) not well you have a T/A cant give out info....We will be Disney 8/18/04 got to go.

Last year the Fairy Tale pkg cost us $85.00 more but we got utilmate hoppers instead of the 5 day and a framed litho and pin set and free golf (which we didn't use). This year's Dream Maker pkg was $135.00 more and we got the hoppers for 8 days instead of 5 and $25.00 add on (probably golf again) 2 lanyards and pins. Then we added on the Princess pkg as well. Great deals....we love being able to go into a park for a few hours and not feel like you are wasting a day on a 5 day hopper.
