Are Disney Gift Cards Accepted at Restaurants?

I am looking to buy my brother either a Disney gift card or Disney Dollars for his upcoming trip to WDW. I think the gift card will be easier to carry around, but I don't know if the WDW restaurants at the resorts or the parks accept the gift cards. Can anyone shed any light on this for me?

You can use them anywhere to eat, and dine. Some carts and outdoor vendors may not accept the gift card. But other than that it's good to dine with.
