Yes, you can get your deposit refunded as long as you cancel before your final payment is due (Walt Disney Travel Company) or 5 days prior to arrival (Central Reservations).
Something to remember: If you booked a package with Walt Disney Travel Company and it has trip insurance, your refund will be the deposit LESS the cost of the trip insurance. Insurance is non-refundable after you pay the deposit. If you booked with Central Reservations, this is not a concern.
I got my full deposit back from WDTC, including trip insurance. Don't know if someone made a mistake there, but insurance was not deducted from my deposit made. I just cancelled last week.
