Are costumes allowed during ceremony?

Hi, we were planning a vow renewal with a Disney theme. We were all going to dress like a Disney character. I had thought a lot of brides would think off this because so many kids like dressing up Disney. But most Disney brides seem to have a traditional wedding and do more of a Mickey Mouse theme instead of Disney movies. So now I'm unsure if our idea is even "legal" at WDW. Our 7 yo DS will be Jack Sparrow the best man. 5 yo DD will be Cinderella the maid of honor. 2 1/2 yo DD will be Tinkerbell the flower girl (I thought it would be cute if she had glitter in her basket to sprinkle pixie dust). They'll all be wearing real costumes (Disney licensed). I found a bright yellow poofy skirt/Cinderella type dress, that is reminiscent of Belle. And DH will wear an Indian mens outfit, reminiscent of Alladin. We're Indian so obviously no guest will think I'm an actual cast member. But I thought it would be a great picture to take with all of us as different characters.

I know Disney has a strict policy against costumes in the parks, but not resorts right? And they are fine with all kids wearing costumes, even in the parks right?

Does anyone know of any other wedding party that has incorporated being Disney characters into the actual ceremony?

Thanks,
Jil

I haven't heard of a policy against costumes at DFTWs, and I know other brides have worn nonDisney costumes (like renaissance outfits), but I guess the safest thing to do would be run it by your DFTW Wedding Coordinator. :thumbsup2

Hi there!

I don't think what you are planning to do would be a problem, especially since it seems like mainly the children will be wearing "costumes" (how cool is that to dress up like Jack Sparrow! You and DF have to be the best parents!) I know that you aren't allowed to have actual Disney characters at the wedding ceremony (or vow renewal ceremony) itself, but I don't see anything about not dressing up as them at that time! I'd ask your WP just to be sure!

If you were looking to do your vow renewal in one of the parks, I'm pretty sure they would have to be closed at the time, so it really shouldn't matter if there are kids dressed up. I've seen fifty billion little children running around the parks in Disney Costumes, so that's another reason I wouldn't worry. Plus, I don't think they could possibly count an Indian suit or any other Indian outfit as a "costume" or else it would be discrimination, ya know?

Are you planning to wear a sari? It would be awesome to get one in an aqua color or purple to match Jasmine's costumes!

It would be really neat to have Aladdin and Jasmine show up at your reception! I asked DF if we could, but he said he's afraid I'll run off with Aladdin instead

How exciting!!! I hope you will keep us all posted on your vow renewal... I'd love to hear all the details!! :goodvibes Good luck and be sure to ask your WP!!

I don't think it should be a problem, when I met with my consultant last week she told me that a bride had gotten married on halloween down there and they all wore costumes including the guests.

That sounds like so much fun!! You guys are going to have a blast, I hope they say its okay, although I don't see why they wouldn't okay it.

Sajilunni, I seem to remember seeing a photo of an entire wedding party dressed in Disney types of costumes (princesses, princes, etc.). I believe the wedding was held in WDW because I ~think~ the photo was taken inside the Wedding Pavilion. The photo was printed in the “letters from fans” section (or whatever it was called) of the old Disney Magazine (which, sadly, ceased publication two years ago).

I am also having my flower girls dress up in costumes (Cinderella, Aurora, and Tink) both my wedding coordinator and florist didn't have any problems with that. I'm getting married in Epcot - Germany and I also have a desert party at Fantasmic. I know the girls are planning on wearing the dresses all day, and I've had no one say they can't wear them in the parks. I'll let you know when I get married how it goes!!! 9/17/2007!!!

Kids can always were them in the theme parks, it's the adults they do not want to. So kids do not get them mixed up with "Real" characters.
