Are Cabin people considered campers?

My dad was stationed at Ft Richardson, 562 combat engineers, he retired in Alaska and will not leave.

I was a ranger so I think I got it figured out. I was at Richardson once for an exercise. It was warmer there than than it had been at Ft Carson! It's a great place. My nephew-in-law (is that really a relation?) was at Elmendorf and had fits when he was transferred out.

The open sky's of Nevada! I have been there once driving through, did you like it?

At first, NO, I grew up in Maine, so the landscape looked so dead to me, but it was starting to grow on me when DH was injured. Had he not been injured we probably would have stayed out there. We actually lived about 20 mins away from the base, closer to Reno, so that was nice. There was a lot to do there, and the desert really can be beautiful. It seemed like there weren't as many restrictions on things either. You were pretty free to go out and enjoy what the "wilderness" had to offer. Lots of dirt biking and 4 wheeling.

Welcome camper!:goodvibes You will adore the Fort and all it's visitors! We are just an extension of that wonderful place and I for one, love to come here and post just to get a little piece of FtW when my next trip is too far away!

Much appreciation to your husband and you!:goodvibes

to keep this back on topic, my answer to the original question is...............

no.

a question was asked, and i answered it.... keep it up, and we won't be allowing WL guests at the 4JUL GG.

If someone staying in a cabin isn't a camper, than neither is anyone staying in anything other than a tent :P

how's that. I've reserved a "campsite", not a "cabin"..... why not stick little bar b que grills o utside all the all star resorts and let those folks be campers too.

Then what would people who stay in "campers" be called? :confused3

I just hate to see another thread where once again we're just trying to turn ourselves into little cliques.

Can't we all just enjoy the Fort :) <insert best Rodney King impression>

The point is, what makes camping, camping?

Does it mean you have to cook your own meals? People in cabins do that

Does it mean you have the outdoors right outside your door? People in cabins have that

Does it mean you are staying at a campground? People in cabins are

Does it mean you have to sit outside? People in cabins do that

See, my point is, why are we even differentiating? People that stay in 5th wheels, that's basically just a big cabin. Yea, they're towing it, but is that what makes camping, camping? Towing something? Other than that, everything they're doing is the same things that people in cabins do.

If you want to get down to it, the only people "roughing it" and truly camping are those that camp in tents, and the Fort is a pretty nice place to "rough it".

It's just like when people start talking about how people at the Wilderness Lodge look down on people at the Fort, and how they're all a bunch of snobs. Well, you're doing the same thing that you're accusing them of doing, you're bunching them all into one big group.

I've stayed in tents at the Fort, I've stayed in pop ups, I've stayed in fifth wheels, I've stayed in R/V's, and I've stayed in the cabins. And never once did I ever think to myself, "Wow, am I actually a camper because of what's over my head?".

I don't think anyone can argue with that! Although somebody may want to!;)

I would consider them campers. My point was, if we're going to start trying to split us all up into different groups in the Fort, then let's just say that anyone that's not in a tent isn't camping.

I don't think people here are necessarily turning themselves into a clique. It's well-known that campers (people who stay in campgrounds, whether it's in cabins, tents, motorhomes, or whatever) are generally nice people, who like to be friendly and socialize with their neighbors! If we didn't, then we wouldn't be pitching a tent and sleeping without locked doors, just 100 feet from strangers! lol

Exactly my point, to me, a camper is just someone staying in a campground, no matter how they are staying. There is no reason that the roof over your head should differentiate.

And of course they are generally nice people!

And you have to admit, there is quite a bit of "Us Vs. Them" that comes across in some of the posts, be it versus the Wilderness Lodge, or Prevosts, or cabins, or what have you ;)

I said the same thing back on page 1, lol !! ;)
