Are breakfasts a bad use of CS credits?

It'll just be DH and me in January, during free dining. A couple of the days I was thinking of sharing a CS breakfast before heading to a ropedrop, then sharing a CS lunch in the park on days before we have a big dinner scheduled. But when I look at the prices, if I'm correct in reading that the 2011 plan doesn't include 2 drinks with the breakfast, it seems like a real ripoff to use a credit on breakfast. Most of the lunch meals I look at include like a $9 entree, plus a $3.50 or so dessert (plus a drink of course for both). Most of the breakfasts seem to be like $5, with no dessert.

Since we'll be arriving early our first day and leaving late our last and will be short credits anyway, I'm thinking maybe we should just pay OOP for any breakfasts we consider doing, and just drinking water (which is fine with both of us) and saving the credits for lunch. Am I missing anything?

Thanks!

Depends on if you are intent on spending every credit to the maximum dollar ammount, or if you really enjoy breakfast. We usually do a combination, splitting a large breakfast platter and the 2 drinks. Can't beat the Tonga Toast @ Capn Jacks or the Huge Breakfast burrito at contemporary. If you are afraid you will be short, then buy your breakfasts OOP, but we nearly always wind up with extras on the last couple of days, and we always go early and stay late!;)

Ooh! and nearly forgot our VERY favorite CS breakfasts @ Wolfgang Puck Express, huge Breakfast pizza, cornflake crusted french toast, and the BEST omelette I have ever had in my life.

I seriously would not waste a counter service credit on breakfast...but then we find that we really are not very hungry for breakfast while on the Disney dining...counter service lunch & table service dinner provides a lot of food. We often save the dessert item from counter service lunch (if it's the little prepackaged type) and have that for a snack later...but most often, we're not even hungry for snacks in between meals because we're still full from the meals! Most of the time we spend the daily dining plan snack credit on buying a pastry as we leave the park at night and have that for breakfast the next day. Just can't see getting a $3-8 breakfast entree for a counter service credit that could be worth $15-$20 at lunch? No way. If you really want breakfast, pay cash for it. Hubby has done that to get his beloved biscuits & gravy at POFQ...full plate of the gloppy stuff was only $3.49 cash. If he used the dining plan, would have charged him a full counter service credit, because they called it an entree, even though it was "snack" priced.

In my opinion if you have some available then thats fine but I wouldn't plan it that way if I could help it. DH and I would usually split a breakfast and that was more than enough for us, especially since we'd then have usually a TS and a CS coming up later in the day. For this past trip we did have a few credits available for breakfast so we did use them that way, but for our next trip I'll probably avoid that and save those credits for lunch or dinner.

Thanks everyone - we're actually arriving the day before free dining starts so will be picking up our package early in the morning on our second day. For whatever reason when planning out days I was forgetting that I didn't have an extra CS available for the first and last day - both of which we'll be in the parks at lunch time (TS dinner the first day). I was trying to figure out which meals would be best OOP then which is why this came to mind. We were planning on hitting the Poly on our MK morning to try the Tonga toast and when I realized it was only like $5 that's when I started questioning why I would use a CS credit for that. Just seems like mathematically it's way off as stated - $7 for breakfast including the (one as of January) drink or $20 for lunch/dinner (still with the one drink). Wondering why then Disney dropped the second drink since it makes it even more uneven so just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something here! Guess we'll pay OOP for the Tonga toast and end up with an extra CS credit!

Our last trip we stayed at CSR and I found using a CS credit for breakfast was pretty good. I would order the omelet that came w/ home fries and a muffin and drinks. I would give my dd2 the muffin and for my 2nd drink i would get a bottle of something to bring to the park. Paying for that oop would've been about $15.

It's been almost 2 years since we've been :scared1:, and for our family of 4, we'd usually get 1 CS breakfast to split (the breakfast burrito with potatoes at POP-YUMMY), split a choc chip croissant, and the kids would get cereal and milk (which I'm hoping still counts as a snack credit). Then we'd usually manage to split 3 CS between the 4 of us for lunch at times. We may pay OOP for breakfasts if we see our count getting a little low. We like to eat! :cool2:

We are two seniors, 55+, and we use 1 CS to split a breakfast platter at the foodcourt, with two beverages. I also get a chocolate croissant using a snack credit. We then use the other CS to split lunch at the parks. DH is a hugh breakfast person so we have to have a sit down breakfast everyday.
We no longer try to maximize the CS credits, we just order what we want.

We found for us the best use of points was to eat a bowl of cereal before leaving the room. And eating a very early CS lunch. If you go in just as they open there are no lines and everything is FRESH!

Also, found that if we had extra snack credits we could pick up goodies at the Main Street Bakery. Took them home and the kids got to enjoy Disney for a few extra days.:wizard:

We have free QS dining this trip, but have 3 TS which we plan to pay out of pocket. The 12 leftover QS will be used for breakfast each morning and also late night meals when we'll be doing EMHs and MNSSHP.

We also don't worry about maximizing our credits. We order what we want. Also figure we'll have snack credits left. So we'll take some goodies home.

We always get CS breakfasts - usually bounty platters or Mickey waffles. Neither my wife nor myself drink anything hot, so we usually get 2 OJs and 2 waters. The waters go int othe park with us. We then eat TS dinners. If I'm hungry in the early afternoon, I grab a Mickey bar or a pretzel. For us this plan works best.
