Are AP discounts always the best?

Just wondering, are the AP discounts always the best discounts? As far the amount discounted is it always significantly more then other packages offered? Just wondering before I get myself an AP and the rest of the family 7 day hoppers.

Thanks Dave

AP discounts and Florida resident rates are usually equivalent and the lowest. The latest batch of email postcard codes may have been equivalent or within $5/night.

Don't forget, AP resort rates are not always offered....but there are other perks.

If you are not planning another visit within the next year, sometimes you will find the 7-for-the-price-of-X (where X has been 4 or 5 over the last couple of years). Since both the room and the tickets are discounted, this is often a hard combination to beat. In any case, you don't need the AP until you show up at Disney, so don't buy the voucher until you are sure the AP rate is the lowest you can get. Anyone can make an AP reservation....with or without an AP or voucher.

Can you tell me a bit about the 7 for the price of X...is that a package that includes room and tickets? Do you know when this type of promotion might be offered (season) and what resorts have been part of the deal before? My Dad heard about a possible 7-for-5 deal coming up but I don't know anything about it. Thanks for your help!

In 2003, they offered a 7 for 4 deal, and in 2004, they offered a 7 for 5 deal. These were Dream Maker packages and included room and tickets.

You payed for X nights of resort accomodations, and X+1 days of UPH tickets, and got the equivalent of 7 nights of resort accomodations and 8 days of UPH tickets.

They both were offered in May, for travel dates of July 5th or so until just before Thanksgiving.

We took advantage of the 7 for 4 deal in fall 2003, which was a great deal. An AP would not have helped in this case bcs the package included UPHs. This year's version was a less generous 7 for 5 deal, which an AP discount on room-only may beat in terms of combined cost.

Since you are planning 7 park days anyway, the price diferential at the gate between 7 day PHP and the AP is about $40 for an adult pass (up to $67 with advance purchase of the PHPs). But at 7 days, you're right on the cusp of breakeven for the AP, so it might pay for at least one of your to have one to take advantage of the AP discounts. And if you manage to get 2 trips into a 12 month cycle, then you have eliminated the admission expense from that second trip, which added to the AP discount on hotel is a substantial savings.

With APs of course, it's important to watch out that you don't "save" so much on WDW travel that you're broke from spending so much at WDW ;)

Thanks for the info! Was this 7 for X special good at any of the Disney resorts, and do you think it was hard to find room availability? For example, if we wanted to stay at an EPCOT resort?
