Just wondering how crowded the parks and restaurants are this time of year...Is it necessary to make ADR's or will walk ups be ok?

Thanks

Yes, they are always need now with the popular dining plan. Especially if you really want to eat at a particular restaurant. I've always made ADR's pre dining plan due to the popularity of some restaurants alone made them book up in advance.

Better safe than sorry! I've seen many many people turned away without ADR's.

I know Le Cellier is already fully booked for that week. When we called at 4 months out to make a change, they only had one time left for the entire week at Le Cellier. By now, I'm sure others are fully booked also.

It really depends on what times and restaurants you're after. Personally, I'd never go without ADRs, because I care too much where we eat! But during a slower time of year, you'll probably be able to find somewhere to eat particularly at the resorts, but it might involve more travel or less ideal times than you'd like.

ADR's are required ANY time of the year nowadays. Many popular restaurants will already be booked.

There is no slow time of the year anymore.

I would say that if there are certain restaurants that you know you want to eat at make an ADR for them. We used to never make ADRs but then the DDP caught on and now we don't go without ADRs regardless of what time of year we are going. Better to be safe, full and happy than left outside or at only CS with a growling belly. ;)

We made our ADR's for 1/6-1/13 exactly 180 days in advance. We got every restaurant we wanted at the exact time we wanted thankfully:thumbsup2 BUT we called about three weeks ago to cancel one and change to another restaurant and it was fully booked... So I would do it for sure if you have your heart set on certain restaurants!

We were there from 1/4-1/13 this year and the only ADR I made ahead of the trip was for CG. All other meals we planned with the concierge desk the morning or afternoon of. Although we got some pretty early or pretty late reservations (4:30-5:30, or after 8), we never went hungry.

I called today to make a ressie for Chef Mickey Breakfast for between 1/19 & 1/23 and all they had was 7:20am or 10:40am. This is too early & too late for us, however the rest of our requests were fine 6ish dinners and 12:30ish lunches. As said above it depends on what you want.
We have gone all different times of the year and we (DH & I) like to go to dinner after the parks close at 7 or 8pm and it usually is not a problem. I called ahead this time because there is 4 adults & 2 kids and one adult likes their meals right on time. Could not hurt to call, plus that is one less thing you have to worry about in WDW.

I know Le Cellier is already fully booked for that week.
Le Cell is always a weird one. I just called and had no problems changing our lunch for 4 pretty much anytime I wanted within 10 minutes. When we have had bigger groups than 4 Le Cel was very difficult even in Jan.

In general in mid-late Jan things don't get too booked but if you have specific wants like princess meals, Chef M, Le Cel, O'Hana dinner, etc you are unlikely to get those but many other places if you have a small party and are very flexible about where and when you eat you'll find something without much effort in Jan.
