Hi! I've been thinking about adding 25-50 points to my family's DVC membership. We currently own at AKL, SSR, and BC. Are add on points cheaper than what they are asking for new purchases?
Substantially cheaper. Probably 33% cheaper. But you'll pay a premium for a resale contract with 50 points if you could ever find one. you'll see more 100-150 point contracts for sale.
If purchasing direct, you will pay list price for the points, sorry. Via resale, it can be very challenging to find small contracts, and you will save less in resale than you would on a larger contract. Closing costs are also a beast.

25 points retail at $160 a point plus closing is around $4150. For resale it's around $2700 wit closing assuming the same points accounting. Small contracts seem to be more likely to be stripped so one might get more points total retail than resale in some cases. IF one could find a fully loaded contract resale (all current and future plus a yr of banked points), you'd get more points than retail. Assuming you have retail benefits already, which seems likely, it just comes down to price and aggravation. Personally I'd go retail for 25 and resale for 50 or more for those resorts. For something like VGF or VGC where the spread isn't as much and availability is less, I'd go retail at 50 or less.
