Are 18 year olds allowed in all adult cruise locations?

My husband and I are traveling with my soon to be 18 year old daughter.
If she is 18 can she get in to the adult nightclubs with us? (Of course she won't be drinking)
I would hate to drop her off somewhere else and leave her on her own.

Also, I was thinking of planning a trip a week before she turns 18. Is that a problem?
Do they monitor these things if we book as an adult? She is very chill and would like to relax with us in adult areas. If it's a problem I can push the date back but the cruises are more expensive in the summer.

While you *might* not get questioned about her being in the pool area, you may well be. I have heard of them asking for ID/Key Card - and the Key Card indicates adult or not. So that would depend on how you and/or she would react to being questioned about it and told she needs to leave if you are. (note: the potentially being asked to leave is if she is NOT 18...I'd have the KTTW card with me just to be safe if she is)

You would definitely not be able to take her to Palo or Remy or any event that requires registration and being over 18.

She would be allowed into all the adult areas, including the nightclubs, if you cruise when she is 18. If you cruise the week before 18, she will not be permitted into any of the adult areas. I have heard of the CMs "carding" people in the adult pool area. As the PP mentioned, she wouldn't be able to go to Palo or Remy with you.

As noted, the adult only areas are 18 and over.

As to whether they will check, if you cruise before she's 18, I can only add my experience. Our newly turned 19 year old was carded at least 6 times in Quiet Cove before the CMs there got to know him. So, in my experience, yes they will check. And the KTTW card will show that she is under 18.

I saw a CM chase a young gal out of the adult pool on our last cruise, I think she was actually of age too but she just looked really really young and finally gave up and left

We took our newly turned 18 year old daughter to Meridian. They made her a special drink-non-alcoholic and made just enough of a fuss as to not make her uncomfortable. Made for a great memory

If you are planning the trip before her actual 18th birthday she will not be considered as an adult, you will not be able book her as an adult. Her KTTW card will have an "M" for minor on it and not an "A" for adult. It's based on your sail date, even though she may turn 18 during the cruise. We encountered the same dilemma with our DD on one of our DCL cruises.

Actually, it would have an "M" for minor instead of "B" for adult but under 21.

And you can get an updated card, if the birthday is during the cruise.

If she is actually 18 yrs old on or before your embarkation date -- yes, she will be allowed into all the "adult only" locations onboard, even bars (though she won't be allowed to order an alcoholic beverage).

If she turns 18 during the cruise, she will be allowed into the "adult only" areas ON her birthday through the end of the cruise, but not prior to the actual birthday.

If she will not yet be 18 when you cruise, no matter how close, she technically is not allowed in the "adult only" areas. However, she would be welcome to go to VIBE and meet kids her own age. I suggest checking out your cruise meet thread for other 17 yr old girls, she could get to know them online before the cruise.

As to "booking" her onto your reservation -- that will be done by her actual age. You must provide date of birth info for each passenger, and it will need to match her ID. So it won't be possible to book a 17-yr-old as an adult anytime prior to the 18th birthday.

Enjoy your cruise!

Oh my! Thank you guys for your honest input. I don't want any problems or to be kicked out of areas. I know it is more expensive for the summer trip but it will be a nice graduation present. Such a nice way to validate your adulthood with access to these areas. She will feel special.

I will keep in mind to have the key card and ID on us. Thanks!

As long as she/you have the KTTW card with you onboard, you won't need any other ID.

So sad though. The prices doubled.

When does she start college? Is there an option in August that would work? Sometimes August is lower than "high summer"...

Like they said she will be allowed in all the adult areas if she is 18 . My son was 19 this trip. He can drink in Canada but not there. He was bummed about that...lol I was not.

I believe she will still be able to go to the vibe if she is 18 . It stops after that , she could check out the college group that is what my son did they had coffee tasting one night in the cove and got to ride bikes free on Castaway Cay. He came to the night shows with us in the adult area and saw the adult versions of comics on board.

She will also be able to go to Palo and Remy if she is indeed 18 at the time.

You could have taken him on the DCL Mediterranean cruise. I believe that parents can sign some form to allow 18-21 year olds to drink, but the parents might need to be the ones buying the drinks. Not sure of the details, since my youngest is 27.

As stated on the DCL FAQ, any cruise sailing from and to a European port where the drinking age is lower than 21 (so anywhere in Europe...) allows 18 to 20 guests to purchase drinks if an adult completed a form at check in and if the drinks are bought in the presence of the adult.
