arcade card?

Games average about $1 per play. The cards are purchased right inside the door in a machine in different amounts using your KTTW card.

Warning---if your child has charging priv., they can recharge their arcade card. THere have been situations of kids running up huge charges, and the parent is responsible.

Another way to do this is to cancel the child's charging. You give them an arcade card (which you got and charged on your KTTW). You can get the cards in $10 increments...any amount you want. You can reload the card any time you want using your KTTW card. You don't want to put too much on the card because if the child loses the arcade card, it is gone...unlike a KTTW which Guest Services can easily replace.

Do these cards ever expire? I just found one from my 12/03 cruise, and I know there's a few dollars left on it. I'd love to be able to use it in November.

Beth: I don't think they expire! At any rate, it sure can't hurt to bring the card with you and try it out. It's small, so won't really be any extra weight in your wallet or luggage :)

When we sailed last summer, we allowed DSs to charge Arcade Cards on their room cards. After a certain amount, we got a phone call from Guest Services to alert us to this. I already knew exactly how much DSs had charged, so I wasn't surprised at all, but I thanked the CM for calling and letting us know, in case we hadn't known about it!

I'm not sure if they always call, but it was nice that they were trying to avoid an unpleasant surprise!

Seasray - I wonder how much your child charged when you got the call. My dh wanted to give my dd (12) charging privilges which I was totally against. I went to guest services on the third morning (like 8 am). My dd had already charged $145 in TWO DAYS. I knew she had no control and no idea - I took away her charging privliges immediately.

There are A LOT of children on the cruise who get turned loose and have "no control and no idea." LOL! And this is not a beat-up-on-bad-parenting comment but a cautionary tale. My DD11 was trying to charge an arcade card (with our permission) at the arcade machine. She was having trouble--probably swiping it the wrong direction--and a younger child standing next to her grabbed her KTTW card out of her hand and said "Here, let me do it!" He swiped her card and punched the "$20" button before she could blink. Then...he grabbed the card out of the machine and started to walk away with it!

My daughter is pretty assertive and she snatched it back and he was quite angry with her. After she talked to him for a bit, she realized he didn't know that the cards aren't free! He thought that anyone could just get 'em...like the food...and he had been annoyed with her because she was getting HER card too slowly.

So, obviously a case of a child (she thinks he was about 9) not having been briefed before he hit the arcade...or just not "getting it". I don't know if my DD's explanation got through to him but she was so worried about MY reaction (for getting $20 instead of $10) that she actually had her friend come with her when she told me to corroborate her story. I must be an ogre-mom...LOL!

I *think* there may have been a total charge of $100 worth of arcade card purchases (total, for both DSs) at the time that the Guest Services CM called. Last year when we cruised, DSs were 16 1/2 and 13 1/2, and both are *extremely* responsible, and told us about and asked permission for, every single purchase they made on the ship, prior to them making the purchases. They knew that if they weren't responsible, they'd lose charging privileges altogether, and they were old enough to understand.

I don't think there's a certain age at which parents should or shouldn't allow their kids to charge, you really just have to know your own child and whether they can understand what charging is all about, and that every single time they use that card, they are actually buying/paying for something.
