OK, I know this subject has been asked before, but what are the best aqua shoes to buy for the water parks. Just looking for something to protect my feet from all of the anti-slip surfaces that make my feet feel like they have been rubbed across a cheese grater. Not worried about price.

Also, most rides make you take the shoes off before going on the slide. Is that correct?

I am not sure about aqua shoes but you could try crocs... while I think they are hideous they are water resistant and VERY VERY light so if you take them off you will barely know you are carrying them

I have a pair of Merrell Waterpro Ultrasports that are really nice, but any of the watershoes will do. I prefer a moc-type shoe over Crocs. Lands End and LL Bean have nice watershoes, but most Walmarts I think will carry them as well.

From my experience you can keep the watershoes on for most of the slides with the exception of Summit Plummet or similar slides.

My husband and I wear Teva water shoes and can wear them all day at the water parks or if we are planning to go on a lot of wet rides at the other parks. They are comfortable and give us some support for our feet. My son does fine in the water shoes from Payless or Landsend. The cement gets really hot and they are helpful for walking around the water parks. You do have to remove the shoes when you go on the big slides, but they allow you to keep them on for most of the slides.

I know they have some cheap, but good for limited use, ones at our Wal-Mart right now..

Last time we had the inexpensive ones from Walmart also. They were comfortable and stayed on good. We're getting those again this year. I definately recommend wearing some kind of shoe, I know the wave pool at Typhoon Lagoon would have worn the bottoms off my feet.

what do you do with the shoes when you take them off to go down a slide???

I saw on someones trip report where her daughter got a nasty blister on the bottom of her feet from wearing water shoes at the water parks...she did not recommend them. I was thinking of wearing just flip flops since they are easy to carry...I don't know how much my kids will be doing the slides since they are not too much into BIG thrill rides...?? Don't know what to do.

I know that some places sell water shoes that are very simular to sneakers...they are mesh and dry out quickly...so I don't know what to do.
I have crocs but I can't imagine wearing them into the water.

I'd definitely recommend the water shoes. The walkways and the sand can be very hot. Also the shoes are nice to have in the bathrooms as well.

As far as the very few slides that you may be required to remove your shoes, I think they make you carry them, but I am really not sure.

Lands End has some nice water shoes with a little more support than you get from the cheapie ones.

The body slides (Summit Plummit and Slush Gusher at BB and Humunga Kowabunga and the Storm Slides at TL) require you to take off your shoes and hold them in your hands while riding the slides.

I think you'll find that people from areas near the Coast don't wear water shoes as a rule, their feet are tough from barefooting it at the beach.

We live at the Jersey Shore, and the only time we've used water shoes is in lakes in the mountains that have rocky and muddy bottoms. Never at the beach...and never at waterparks in our town.

But I can imagine walking on the hot cement would hurt if your feet are used to being in shoes.

When we went two years ago we got these birkinstock waterproof sandals . They were quite comfortable and we were able to wear then all day (to other parks) without blisters. I'm no hippie so I was unsure of berkinstocks, but I now love them. They hold up too, I will be taking the same pair this year. :thumbsup2
