I just noticed that all Californian's can pay payments now (I know I'd have to get a deluxe since I'm in northern CA) but I have some questions.
When you make the down payment, when is the first time you can go in to DL with the AP? I'm trying to time this as I may go again in December and then again in July. Are you making the payments while you have the AP in hand? (after you pay the deposit of course). I think I'm a tad confused.

Normally I wouldn't consider it as I can buy a 3 day pass through the state union for cheaper for two trips however, this may afford me the ability to stay 4-5 days instead of 3 at a time.

You have to pay $80 down payment, and at that time you have an AP, they will then charge you x amount a month it depends on which AP you buy. So your AP is in effect from the minute you activate it with the down payment.

You can buy it in advance, and when you use it the first time is when it is activated, but I would do that close to the time you are going to use it the first time.

I just discovered this as well, we were set to go next weekend and buy new AP's but will definately take advantage of the monthly payments.

Last summer we got our deluxe APs through the teacher's union. They were $20 off the regular price. I'm glad they offer the payment plan to all of CA but I know we would rather pay it all at once for less money. Another trick we do is buy it one summer, then go once during the "school year" then go back the next summer before it expires. We then let it go for the rest of the year until the summer after that when we buy a new one.

Thank you for the explanation. I was pretty sure that's how it worked but wanted to make sure. I'm definitely not the type to save for this, I procrastinate a lot when it comes to saving for vacation and then the month before, start stressing. This is perfect for me.
