Hi there,

I have never been on the ToT and am leaning on not going on. I have anxiety "issues" with motion and not being in control. I know that each ToT ride is different and the sequences are changed, but I'd like to find out how many is the average? How many is the least #/the greatest # of drops? I think having that knowledge will help me mentally prepare...I would love to go on it, especially with my kids! I have done well in the past with rides if I know exactly how it will be (no big surprises for me)! I would love to see a free video clip of riding ToT, but don't want to pay at some of the websites I've seen.

Thanks for you help! :thumbsup2

I positively adore the ToT, despite the dreadful fear of heights I have under all other conditions. Actually, I would probably be satisfied to ride it once per trip, but my best bud, who loves it even more than I, keeps dragging me on over and over. Nothing like a good blast of adrenaline to clear out the mental cobwebs!

Just as a wild guess, I would say that you drop a minimum of ... three? times, and maybe a maximum of five or six, with a random variety of long, medium, short, and sneaky (right at the top and it drops you a few feet, just to let you know it can!) drops.

Check out YouTube for some vacation videos, absolutely free. Do a search on 'Tower of Terror' and see what you can find. It may help you decide if this is something you want to try out!

This is kind of a hard question, because, as you said, it is different every time. I would say the average is maybe 5 or 6 drops. The trick is, though, that when you get to the "drop" shaft of the ride, you are somewhere in the middle, so you can go up or down first thing. Not every drop will be the same distance, either. Some are fairly short, some long. I love this ride, mostly because of the surprise factor. DH and I love comparing each ride, "That was the best one today!" etc. . . :rotfl:

Anyway, if you stand over near RnR and watch (and listen for the screams) for a few minutes, you can get a feel for how long the ride lasts and how many drops to expect. The car doesn't go to the top before every drop, but I think you might develop a comfort level with it by watching and listening. There may be some video online, but since most of the dropping takes place in pitch darkness, I'm not sure how much it will help you. I guess I'm agreeing with you that I wouldn't pay for it. ;)

The Travel Channel had a show on WDW throughout the week last week. If you have this, check to see if it's still running. They had great info and clips from the ride that would really help you. They pretty much showed the entire ride.

To the best of my recollection, it drops no less than 4 times. The variable is the length of the drop and the height of the "recovery" before the next drop. You should try it at least once. Just tell yourself that you are belted in and will not get hurt in any way. It is a relatively short ride once you start the drop sequence (maybe 10 seconds?). But getting there is well worth any mental anxiety you may have. The scenery along the way is awesome!!

Enjoy! :cool1:

ToT is my FAVORITE ride, during slow time (this past Jan) my DBF and I made our personal record of 13 times in a row in under an hour and a half. Could have gone longer but the park was closing!

On a only few of the rides we got one several story(what felt like full top to bottom) drops, very rare from my experience. The rest were only a couple at a time. Usually there are between 4-6 drops. I could ride ToT all day long! :goodvibes

Thanks to all who replied! That helps to know that it should be around 4-6 drops. I think I can handle that. I think I would feel more comfortable sitting in the back. Can you choose???

For the most part, I absolutely hate drops. They don't just make me sick--I completely freak out! Having said that, I have to say that TOT is possibly my favorite ride at Disney--it's in the top 5 for me. :confused3

The whole Twilight Zone set up is so fun--and even though the drops are scary, for some reason I could go again and again...and I do!!!!

I remember a mom and her daughter were next to us on TOT once, and right before the lights went out, the little girl said, "Mommy, why do they call it the tower of terror?" Then we dropped. :rotfl2: The timing was perfect. I was afraid she wouldn't take it very well, but she screamed and laughed the whole time. It was GREAT!!!!

As my sweetie says, "if you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room!" :rotfl:

I hope you can overcome that anxiety and experience it at least once! pixiedust:

I think out of all the times I did it I only got about 3 drops, but I'm a little hazy on that. Overall I would have to say it is by far the best "drop" ride I have ever seen, very well themed. And I'm not really a big fan of drop rides. It's pretty tame if you asked me, I would recommend doing it for sure, its practically the only decent ride at MGM anyway, other than the Aerosmith coaster, and maybe one other thing.

I have counted 5 drops before. This summer I forgot to count the drops. But like someone above said, the drop sequence part is actually very short and seems to be over quickly.

Should not be a problem to choose the back. Just let the attendant know that you want a back row seat. Worst case is you would have to wait until the next ride line up.

That will show you the whole ride!!!!! From getting in line to getting off!!!!

you'll also know when it's ready to drop, because the doors will open and you'll feel a blast of hot, humid air. (well, i've never been not in the summer, so in Jan it might be cool humid air). That's the cue. You could ride it twenty times and do a spreadsheet on the drop variables, which would advance research, and give you a sense of control on the process. :teacher:

Because it's only 3 rows, you're not going to feel the difference between the front row and back. Here's what would help you: Get a seat that's on the outside. That way, you feel as if you're in a corner and you're a little more enclosed that you would be on the top row, middle seat.
