April will be "Incredible"-y Fun!

Good morning, everyone! Well, today is go to work day... been here since 5:30 and it's going to be a busy one. Just wanted to stop in for a few minutes before things go nuts.

So I didn't get a run in yesterday but I knew I wouldn't. I got my strength training in though. Today is usually my day off from working out but I really want to get a run in. Not sure how that'll work out with the kids. I don't have a jogging stroller yet, just a regular double stroller. Does anyone know how feasible running is with a regular stroller (besides the fact that I'll probably look stupid)?

Veronica - I would definitely make suggestions to your ILs and see what comes of it. It'd only be fair for everyone to pick a route and alternate. It's nice to have someone to run with but that's annoying. If they can't compromise every now and then, hoof it solo... you gotta do what's best for you!

Good morning incredibles!! I wish I've had more time on the computer to keep up here too. I'm planning an august trip, and have been wasting way too much time reading all the posts on the code board of people waiting for free dining. It is addicting. I'm going either way, and stay value, so I know I'll get a hotel, but sometimes I can't pull myself away from the debating threads.

I did my easter morning c25k run/walk, and tomorrow will be w6d2, which is the last interval walk/run session, and then it's at least 25 mintues 3 days a week, which sounds daunting, but I can to it. We went to the park last night and played some tennis, which we're not very good at, so there's lots of running involved to get the ball. There's three courts, and luckily we were the only ones there, so we played on all 3.

Alicia- The weather has been amazing the past few days, and 80s tomorrow!! I think we might pack a picnic supper tomorrow night and head to the beach.

Susie- 20 miles on the bike is pretty awesome. I am over 200 pounds, and never thought I could run, but here I am running. It amazes me, and I think when I lose some weight, I can imagine my time will speed up. I am amazed after I finish each day that I actually did it. You'll get back out there. You'll love the BL challenge, so many inspiring and supportive people over there too. I feel so blessed to have found WISH, and know I'm not alone in this journey.

Veronica- I agree with the others to try and talk to them again. It sounds like your fil would be agreeable to anything, maybe if you talked to him first, and tried to get some support from him when you approached your mil it would be easier. It's hard, I can see you don't want to cause any rifts, but you deserve to have a say too.

Jess- I am lucky, it is easy for me to let my son play at the park because he's 8. Yours are still so young. Those toddler years are so draining, because you can't leave them alone for a minute. They are adorable years though.

Patsy- Glad you had a nice trip to DL. I love to eat at disney too, and pretty much have whatever I want, and have found if i get right back to healthy eating when I get back, the damage of a pound or two is gone quickly, but if I stay eating in vacation mode, I get in trouble. That would be so awesome if you son runs the half marathon with you.

Hope everyone has a nice day. I'm off to work now.

Hello, everyone! I am trying to catch up with all of your weekend events. My husband and I went to Philadelphia on Friday for a weekend getaway. He had three free nights at a hotel downtown, and we hadn't been anywhere by ourselves (that didn't involve him working and me tagging along) since our eight-year-old was two! The kids stayed here in Tennessee with my parents (they live an hour away from us).

We went to a Phillies exhibition game, visited Amish country, and saw the historic sights in Philadelphia. I had never been to Philadelphia before. My husband goes there a lot for work, but he had never done any of the tourist stuff. It was a nice weekend, but I haven't run since Thursday (and before that I hadn't run in over a week b/c of shin splints). So...I am going to try to do W9D2 today. I really want to do a 5K on the 17th, so I need this week and next to go well. My kids are out for spring break, so I am dragging them with me to his elementary school track. They have a 1/2 mile loop, so I am going to let the kids play on the playground while I run. The playground is in the middle, so I can see them easily.

Veronica, I think suggesting a route before hand is a great idea. If they don't go for it, you can decide what you want to do. It sounds like you are very willing to go along with what MIL wants. She should be able to go along with what you want sometimes as well.

Patsy, I nodded my head when you mentioned missing the earthquake. We planned to go to San Diego for Spring break, but we cancelled the trip because my daughter always wakes up early (and even earlier when her sleeping routine is different on a vacation), and we didn't want to be getting up at 3:30PT the entire trip. I am glad we didn't go. I would have been a basket case if we had been up on a higher floor of a hotel in San Diego! I am thankful that there were so few lives lost.

It's going to be in the 80s here today, so I'd better go run before it warms up too much! I hope everyone has a great Tuesday!

ETA: I got over to the school and wasn't able to run because the after-care kids were playing out there. Running on the track is only allowed when after care is not there. I didn't even think about them being out there during spring break. I understand the reason for this rule, but I am frustrated. Now I'll have to wait until after 6PM. I find it so much more difficult to run at the end of the day when I am already worn out, and it will be about 15 degrees warmer. Oh, well. I could go to the park, but it's much bigger and I am afraid I won't be able to keep my 5yo in sight. I guess I'll be toughing it out tonight!

Veronica I'm not a member of your team, but have been following alone since you guys got going.
This is what I would do....MIL calls and says we will run here at this time-if it works for you, run with them, if not say it doesn't work and run on your own. I would do the same thing week after week-sometimes you may feel that it is a good run for you and you go with them, and other times just say it isn't going to work for you. I love long runs and it gives me time to think about stuff and let my mind clear out. Hope it all works out for you.

Thanks to everyone for the advice. I think I will suggest something for this Sunday and see what happens. Since we aren't actually training yet (start on 5/17) its not as critical now, so perhaps this would be a good time to sort this out.

I'll let everyone know how it works out.

Tomorrow is going to be so warm here, unfortunately, I will be working so I won't be able to get out and enjoy it!

Great job to all the c25k folks-I can't keep up with all of you!

Another question to ponder:

Where would you like to travel most other than Disney?
I would love to cruise the Mediterranean. Especially Greece, Turkey, and Italy. It is on my list but we want to wait until DD is older before we go. I would also love to go to Hawaii.

Where would you like to travel most other than Disney?

You mean there are other places to travel besides Disney?!? :scared1: :rotfl:

Okay, seriously, we would like to travel to Hawaii and Europe some day -- London, Paris, Rome. Especially now that DS is older. We started dragging him around when he was six weeks old so he is a good traveler. :goodvibes

We also vacation every year at Lake Okoboji in Iowa at our family cottage that has been in DH's family for 117 years.

Veronica,, there is no easy answer on the in-law issue. I think you should get to pick sometimes but that doesn't mean it will happen . . . :rolleyes1

I'm going to be stuck at W2 of the C25K for another week. I went to the podiatrist today as I have some plantar warts that are being treated. They are stubborn so I got the Cantharidin treatment -- bug spit to make a blister. :scared2: I have some pain in the ball of my other foot from running so got an adjustment to my orthotics and my toe taped. The doctor assures me that I will be able to start my training again in a week and can do my 5 mile walk/run we are doing on 4/25 so I'm okay with things. I was amazed to hear myself quizzing the doctor on when I could run again and not wanting to put a big dent in my training -- I was thinking who is this person who is so worried about being able to run? Did the aliens kidnap me and I didn't notice? ;)

It is so inspiring to hear all of your stories and talk about training!

Other than Disney? Hmmm.... Greece, England, Italy, India, anywhere in Africa, Bolivia... lots of places.

Other than Disney? I would love to go to Ireland. A few of my friends who are retired are going as a group in May. I wish I was going with them.

Dh never wanted to travel much but he has been talking about it a lot lately. He is pushing for me to decide when I want to retire. I will be old enough in May and he will be old enough in October. He wants to see Rome and Ireland and Alaska. He also wants to see spring training in Fl. But the best trip he wants to take is a 2 WEEK trip to DW.

This summer he is headed to Va to work the Boy Scout 100 Anniv Jamboree. I may go down for a couple of days and see the closing ceremony. I have seen the last 2. Got to see President Bush on tape for the first time and in person the last time. I am wondering if President Obama is going to be at this one.

Other than that we are staying home and doing some things around NJ. I would like to do some hiking. I have picked south jersey where it is FLAT. He has picked north jersey and the Appalacian Trail where it is definitely not flat. I am hoping to get the kayaks in the water a few times. I want to take dh to The Wetlands Institute in NJ on a kayaking tour.

Have a great evening everyone.

Where to go other than Disney?

I've really been lucky in that I've been to some really neat places. I would love to go on a Med cruise someday. I'd also like to go to Japan, Austrailia and New Zealand. Also, a Russian river cruise. I'd also like to travel to all 50 states. Can you tell....I love to travel!

Hooray! I ran 3 miles tonight without stopping. I finished in 34:55. I know that's slow, but since I have never run three miles straight, I am very excited!

As far as travel is concerned, I would love to visit Hawaii and Europe. However, I would probably have to be medicated. I am VERY claustrophobic, and just the thought of being in a plane over the ocean for a long period of time almost makes me have a panic attack! The flight to Disney is only an hour, so I am brave for Mickey. :)

Lauren, that's awesome! I did about 4.5 miles tonight, but using 2:30 walks and 2:30 sprints.

Lauren - 1st great job on the 3 mile run! awesome time :thumbsup2

2nd, I'm right there with you on the needing to be medicated to fly to Hawaii. Actually I HATE flying so I have to be medicated to fly from Sacramento to LAX!! I really do have to take a small dose of zanax(sp??) to fly anywhere! I am a control freak and walking on to an airplane just brings on major panic attacks. I've come a LONG way though...I've become a "big girl" and can actually drive myself to an airport and fly all by myself:woohoo:
My DH was worried about me when I flew to WDW in March to participate in the Princess Half Marathon...he was afraid I wouldn't make my connecting flight!!

So, with all of that being said...my dream is to go to Hawaii. I'd have to travel at night so I couldn't see that I'm over water and I'd probably have to double up on the medication!:rotfl:

Good morning, everyone! Today's day two of baby-sitting for me. She'll be here soon. I got two miles in yesterday. I was bummed because I was supposed to get four in but DD woke up. I guess I can't be too mad because Tuesdays are usually my days off. I usually work out Wednesday morning and instead I slept in until 6:45. I needed it. Today will probably be my day off, we'll see.

I decided to add a 5K to my running schedule... May 23rd and then two weeks after that will be my first 10K. There's a race in July in Chicago that's right on the Lake Michigan shore that I'd love to do but I'm trying to find someone to do it with me. No luck on that yet...

As for my dream vacation, Venice, Italy. DH wants to go to Australia so I'll do that with him. I've been to Hawaii ten years ago but I would go again in a heartbeat. It's stunning and so different from boring old Indiana.

It's been quiet around here during the day lately. Guess everyone's at work, huh? I'll be around a little later and check in.

Morning ladies!!:flower3:

Lauren, great job on the run!! Hey don't think you are slow-I ran a 3 miler this weekend in 34:18, and I have been running for a while! Speed is not everything, just doing it is what matters.

No exercise for me this morning, I have class at the Y tonight. Hope everyone enjoys the beautiful day today!!

Lauren- Congrats on the run!

Patsy- I hear you about the panic and flying.I am also a control freak and need xanax. We were just talking about this at work yesterday, that is funny.

Jess-I have never ben to Venice but be very careful I heard that Venice believe it or not is very, very dirty. They have no sewer system and all that "junk" is floating along the canals you are in the gondolas in- EWWWW! Heard it from someone who just got back.

Veronica- Everyone has given good advice so I won't add to it.But "Hello"

Vacation other than Disney- That would have to be Florence Italy- Tuscany and Greece.I am taking DD18 to Disney for graduation and my DD16 said when it is her turn she wants to go to Italy- me too but how do I get there???? Long flight???? Oh Boy BIG xanax for that trip!!!

Will be 87 here today- lots to do then run.Have a good day all!

Linda

Wow! I'm impressed with you ladies! Way to go for getting out there. Slow or not, you're getting out there!

Linda - interesting about Venice. I've always wanted to go on a Med. cruise that starts and/or ends there so I could visit that area. I have been to the Tuscanny area several times and really liked it but never made it up to Venice. With it being part of a cruise, I guess it wouldn't be so bad as just going to that area alone.

As for a long flight, it really isn't so bad...especially on those big aircrafts. I don't feel as claustrophobic. I really am not a fan of flying. However, it gets me to where I want to go. The International flights seem to be better than regular U.S. flights...at least for me. They have more movies and other entertainment to keep you occupied. You can get up and stretch, plan your vacation along the way, and you get food. ;)

Lisa- I'm not too sure there's other places than disney either, i just keep going back.:rotfl: Sorry about your foot, but hopefully the bug spit:scared1: will take care of it once and for all. At least you'll be able to run again in a week. You'll do fine picking up where you left off. It is amazing to see that change in attitude toward exercising. The princess is such a great motivator.

I'd love to take my son to Ireland one day, I think when he's 11 or 12. I've been twice, and I know he'll love the castles, and seeing the farm where his great grandfather was born will be awesome. We have second cousins there still. We're planning to go to niagara falls in the fall, and I want to see the grand canyon one day. Southern california, is on the list too, but that includes a DL visit.

Fun question. I've enjoyed reading everyone's answers.

Another question to ponder:

Where would you like to travel most other than Disney?

This is a question with a never ending answer for me! I'm obsessed with wanting to see the world...
  • road trip across the US, or at least through the west/up the Pacific Coast Highway
  • backpack through Europe - it's on our 'before we have kids' list (Paris; Interlaken, Switzerland; and Munich, Germany are must-sees)
  • Morocco
  • Macchu Picchu
  • Antarctica
  • Adventures by Disney Africa trip
to name a few. Oh, and I'll need to go back to Ireland. It's a beautiful country!

I really do have to take a small dose of zanax(sp??) to fly anywhere! I am a control freak and walking on to an airplane just brings on major panic attacks. I've come a LONG way though...I've become a "big girl" and can actually drive myself to an airport and fly all by myself

I am the same way! I'm afraid to fly and get major panic attacks. I take Xanax or Tylenol PM before I fly - anything to knock me out. It was tough flying to San Francisco and to Ireland, but I did it! I even fly home to NJ/Philly by myself, but I don't really like do to it, haha.

Happy National Start Walking Day!!!

The National Walking Campaign has been all over the news here today.

I have also been very fortunate and been able to travel to many dfferent places around the US and world...Alaska, Hawaii, Tahiti (personal favorite), Europe, Canada ,Mexico, Morocco (not a personal favorite).

My husband and I decided when we turned 40 instead of a party the person got to select any place in the world to go. My husband turned 40 first and picked fishing in remote Alaska. We went in by float plane to a cabin that was mouse infested for five sleepless nights. Crazy experience!!!

Two years later when it was my turn, off to two weeks in Tahiti with ten of our scuba friends to dive Bora Bora and see the islands. A mouse FREE vacation!

As we approach 50 in a few years, the same rules apply.

I forgot to post what my 5yo daughter said to me last night after I ran 3mi for the first time. I often tell her stories that begin with "Once upon a time, there was a sweet little girl with blonde hair and blue eyes..."

Last night she said, "Mom. I'm going to tell you a story: Once upon a time, there was mom with pretty blue eyes. She ran and ran. She got better and better, and she didn't give up. She's awesome. The end."

That 30 second conversation was worth every minute of the 9 week program!
