April 30, 2006 - 4 night Wonder - anyone?????

Hey, Goscudder

My son will be delighted...he's already enrolled in the Lab and looking forward to meeting other boys. If you send me a PM with your son's (or your) email address, I'll have my son (Jack) write and introduce himself from his email address. Then they can "talk".

And other Disboarders...
I'll be gathering up info and posting an updated list shortly.

Now I just need a teen/tween (boy or girl) email pal for my 13 year old daughter! She's not certain whether to try and latch on to the lab group if there's room or head off on her own to the teen area.

This weekend my kids are making their door sign, so I'm off to AAA today to grab a Bahamas brochure they can cut up for part of the decorations.

Cheers, everyone!

My name is Darla and this is our first cruise. There is myself, my husband, DD age 11, DD age 6. My youngest is a HUGE Tinker Bell "fan". I have been trying to get any information on how to plan for this vacation.

We are traveling from Southern Illinois and I have spoke with a few people who have taken this cruise and cannot wait to go back.

I just wanted to say hello, I have not read all the entries yet, but I will try and get caught up.

Hi, Darla

Welcome to the gang...you are in for a real treat. We're in the Chicagoland area and have met several other Illinois cruisers via Disboards. Long live virtual communities!

I've been looking for a pre-cruise email pal for my just-turned 13 year old daughter to correspond with. If you'd be interested, I can give you my daughter's email address in a private message and the girls can swap emails. I'm arranging the very casual group meeting for everyone on Disboards taking our cruise at 3 on the day of sailing, so it might be nice for your daughter to make a friend beforehand. Just let me know. Also, please share as much information as you are comfortable with so we can add you to our list of who's sailing with us! Usually it's just first names, rough location of origin, ages and genders of kids, deck your stateroom is on, and any special occasion you might be celebrating.

At any rate, welcome to the wonder of, well, the Wonder!

That sounds great! Just email me and we can get them talking.

Have you done any excursions? I was wanted to do the Atlantis tour but did not know if it would be worth the time. We have never had any kind of experience like this before and I do not want to over do-it, or under do-it either.

We are signed up for late dinner, but I do not understand the dinning preferences (how you pick where you want to eat).

One friend told me that our children would not want to spend much time with us, and they would want to do their own thing. Do you agree? Is this going to be like separate vacations?

Hi, There

We've not done any excursions at Nassau, but this year we followed advice on Disboards and rented a room for the day at the Comfort Suites hotel which is right across from the Atlantis resort. It was less than a shore excursion to Atlantis for the four of us, and, unlike the Disney shore excursion to Atlantis, includes all the pools and waterslides.

Nassau is okay to walk around, but you see the same stuff repeated after about the fifth shop. And the hair braiding ladies and vendors at the straw market can be aggressive.

We're signed up for the late dining, as well. We've just found even with the kids that we couldn't get our acts together to get dressed for dinner for the early seating. You don't need to worry about anything regarding dining...when you arrive, all the information about the rotation of restaurants you go to, what tiime you eat, and what table you sit at will be waiting for you in your room (and on your Key to the World card.

My kids loved the clubs so much they didn't want to leave...your mileage may vary. It was nice to be able to do adult things even with the kids along. For my kids, I felt the ship was a very safe environment for them to try their wings a little moving from place to place and deciding where to spend their time. We have two days before and three days after the cruise to spend at parks, so I'm not worried about feeling like we've missed out on family togetherness! The one thing I regretted about how popular the kids found the clubs was that when we got home and looked at our pictures, the kids were in hardly any of them! We did get character shots and a few in the morning at Castaway Cay, but for the most part they were gone, gone, gone...and having the time of their lives.

Will send you a PM with Noelle's email address and the girls can chat!

Hi Darla & fam!

Welcome -- glad you found us ;)

I am getting so excited about meeting everyone -- it is around the corner!

Besides cruising the disboards, the other thing that helped me a lot in my planning was reading the 'magical disney cruise guide' - just google it or go to allearsnet DOT com and follow the links. It is a fount of information - about 80 pages of it if I remember correctly!!

We are not doing an excursion in Nassau, since it is our first time and we want to look around. If it were our third or fourth time, we might feel differently. I've heard good things about both choices - Nassau and Atlantis.

Denise -- you now have e-pals for both your kids!! Yea!!

I've been having fun lately listening to all our CDs searching for songs to put on a "wedding mix" -- so far I have about 8 including Nellie McKay's "I Wanna Get Married" - if you haven't heard it, it's a total hoot and I'm dying to get her latest CD. Here's an excerpt:

"I wanna get married
yes, I need a spouse
I want a nice Leave it to Beaverish
golden retriever and a little white house
......
I just want to bake a sugar cake for you
to take to work in the morn
and I'll stay home cleaning the dishes
and keeping your wishes all warm
I wanna get married
that's why I was born"

You gotta laugh!!

Oh, and I'm thinking Lyle Lovett's "She's no lady, she's my wife"!! Any other ideas!?!? (They're not ALL going to be spoofs!!)

See all ya'll real soon !!

Nancy

Hey, Nancy...we've got two golden retrievers (and about 8 others if you gathered up all the hairballs)! Here's some other fun songs...Wishin and Hopin', Wedding Bell Blues and a serious but lovely ballad called The Book of Love by Peter Gabriel. It's on the soundtrack for Shall We Dance.

John and I had a Vegas wedding at a ranch...I clip clopped into the chapel in my white laceup boots to Once Upon a Time in the West and our big exit tune was the Theme from the Magnificent Seven. We gave out CDs of our wedding tunes and some other music that marked the milestones of our relationship to our guests (along with horseshoes and bandanas.) It's what you do the second time around when you are really having FUN!

One month from today we climb onto a Southwest jet out of Midway to Orlando!

Thanks for the new website. I have been so busy trying to figure out all the bits of information, and it puts it all together for me. I have not made it all the way through it yet, but I am working on it.

I am so stressed, not only are we going on this cruise, but in a couple of weeks (Easter weekend) we are going to Nashville for the Nascar Bush Race. I am one of those people who has to have everything planned out. Oh and by the way my husband is a truck driver so all of the planning and everything else is usually on me and my "OCD"

Now for the questions:
camera's-should I buy each of my girls one of the disposable cameras? And just keep the digital for when we are together?
clothing-I am still confused on what to wear for dinner. Dress for girls and slacks for guys? It seems like I have read everything on the dress issue but I still have no idea.

Talk to you all soon.

Really, the big thing is they prefer no jeans at dinner, but it is not like they are going to turn you away unless it is Palo...... I know for me it will be kahki capris and tanks with heels..... Yeah, I am a little short.... For the girls even dress shorts is OK, and throw in some kahkis and some button downs or polos for the for husband and get on the boat!!! It really is not as stuffy as most people think, and remember IT IS YOUR VACATION!!! Look forward to seeing you!!

So... FINALLY!!! Officially booked!!! Just 30 days to go!!!!! UGH!!! And I have spring fever!?!?!? OY!!!!

I just wanted to spend a moment and say hello to all my fellow cruisers...

I am the other half of the Skylynx and Imapala duo....

You are all going to have a wonderful time and for you first time cruisers... you will be hooked...

We continue to sell our blood plasma to pay for our cruises... or make Sklynx work even harder... :rotfl2:

Cheers

John aka Impala

OK all you wild and crazy cruisers...time to get happy, here! We got our cruise docs yesterday (albeit addressed to our 13 year old daughter). The luggage tags are all there, and I'm really feeling like this is all very concrete. Disboard tradition is Disboarders annouce when they get their docs, so there you have it! This is the first time we've been the initial ones to announce the arrival of that happy package...guess most of you are all busy packing or trying to tie up all the loose ends that need to be dealt with before you disappear from your "real lives" for a while!

I'll be posting an update later on the meet and greet...

Attention! This is the most current list of who's traveling with us. Please check to be sure we've got your info correct. If you want to add info or add yourself if you aren't on the list, please post or PM me.

The meet and greet will be at 3 PM on embarkation day at Signals, the bar by the adult pool on deck 9. Bring the kids, so they get a chance to meet each other! The 3 PM time should give you ample opportunity to get on board, enjoy your first meal, get settled in your cabin, make any last minute reservations, etc, before we have a brief chance to say hello and see each other face to face before the mandatory lifeboat drill at 4! We will also have a casual gathering for anyone who wants to hang out as a clan for the sailaway party on deck 10 portside overlooking all the action. Caveat: if you have small children you will probably want to be down on deck 9 instead to supervise the riotous dancing, keep track of your kids, etc. In that case, we'll wave at you! ;-)

PS If this is your first cruise DO NOT miss the sailaway party, (the first time you hear the "When you wish upon a star" ship's horn is at the countdown during the party and it is the first time to see the characters onboard) and do not forget to look back at the terminal for a Kodak moment as we are pulling out as cruise terminal castmembers come out with big Mickey hands and wave goodbye.

The wedding is in 8 days  and it will all be over SO quickly!! Mike says I have having pre-post wedding/honeymoon/cruise blues!!! Isn't that terrible!!?!

We don't have our docs yet, but you can bet I'll give you a thumbs up when they show. :cheer2:

I have --goosebumps-- (and it's 84 out so it's not the weather!!)

There is a 60% chance of rain forecasted for 4/21, so send up a prayer for sunshine for us ;)

oh, and we made the decision a couple days ago that the soloist is singing 'when you wish upon a star' as I walk to the altar aka 'next to the fountain in the park' -- [note to self: remember the WATERPROOF mascara!!! I cried just listening to that song on the cd!]

See ya'll.....real....soon!

Nancy

p.s. Denise: for a first timer -- 10th deck for sailaway party or 9th?? We'd probably prefer to hang with "all ya'll" :grouphug:

We got our docs yesterday! And yes, I've been out shopping like mad. I know there are some other items to get.... ie. swim floaties for the girls, etc. I'll get out the luggage this weekend and start piling stuff in. We leave in 2 weeks... land portion starts then. I have to get through Easter first... having a big dinner, then it's crunch time!

pirate: The family is getting REALLY excited now! Young Noah(4) asks every day "Is the Mickey slide ready yet?" and parents (Dennis and Elizabeth) were amazed by the travel channel documentary about the Disney cruise ships that I recorded for them! We look forward to meeting you all, and a special hello to kstelzner from San Diego and your 4 year old son!

We are leaving Houston on the morning of the 29th and will be staying at the Doubletree on Cocoa Beach. Now, here is my secret - I know it it safe as rest of the family is not aware of this particular thread! I have booked a limo to take us from the airport to the hotel - and the driver will have a sign that reads "Master Noah ... and family!" HA!

See you there!

Actually we have a 4 year old daughter, not a son! But she has "boy friends" in preschool, so perhaps they'll become friends. I'm actually very curious to see how she does on the cruise. Our last cruise she was 18 mo. and would not let us leave her in the nursery. She's ventured out some now that she's started preschool, but I'd say she's still on the shy side. We'll see if she lets us leave her in the kids club.

We hope to join you all for the meet and great. The last time (and only other time) we had all intentions of going, but our DD fell asleep from all the excitement (and my kids Still take naps). She awoke in a terror when the alarms went off on the fire drill. Not a fun rest of the evening trying to deal with a kid that didn't get her full nap in. We may be in the same boat this time too... our now second DD 22 months does take naps too. BUT this time we know what to expect... maybe we'll stick ear plugs in her ears and pull pillows around her ears. :rotfl:Though it doesn't help that all people in your party have to report for the drill. We'll try our best to meet you all!!

Kristin

We got our documents this week too! Looking forward to meeting everyone at the 3:00 meet!

Thanks for the tips about the sailaway party -- since we have young kids, we'll probably be down where the action is. We have a four-year-old daughter too, as well as a six-year-old son -- looks like they'll have plenty of new friends in our DIS group!

I am so excited to be going on my first cruise and getting a chance to meet my fellow cruisers. I haven't recieved any docs yet and we start our vacation on the 19th should I be worried yet? It will be my mom(50+), my godson/cousin(20) and me Suzie(28). We will be on deck 7 and this will be the tail end of our trip proceeding four nights at the other park, a week at wdw and then our cruise!! While on our vacation it will be six months since my dad passed away and it was the one thing that he really wanted to do but was never able to so we will be honoring his memory and life on this trip. Of course we'll miss him but know he'll be there in our hearts. OK enough sad stuff time to get excited for our trip! Here we come!!
