April 10 2010 Disney Magic EBTA "Bound for Barcelona" - Part 5

Curious question - has anyone else get sick after coming home? If you have, did any of the apes jump on you?

I started a cough as I walk off the ship. Two days later (while in London), I sounded like I was losing a lung when I coughed. Went to the dr today (got home yesterday). I have severe bronchitis, but since I was on a cruise and "in Europe", he gave me a broad spectrum anti-biotic to make sure I didn't pick up anything else.

I want to be on the ship (even as sick as I am) so that I can stay in bed and have room service. I actually have to get it myself here.

Everyone in my party got sick. Daughter's friend got sick on the 21st and is currently taking an antibotic. Daughter came home for the weekend and she is in the bed. Picked her prescription about an hour ago.

I got sick late the night of the 23rd and it really got worse on the 9 hour plane ride home the next day. I kept coughing in the pillow provided by SWISS. After seven hours of coughing when we landed I thought I should take the pillow with me. They ran down the hall and asked for the pillow back, but not the blanket. Eventhough the stewards saw me coughing I know it was probably a company policy so we gave both back. Went to the Dr. on Monday and she sent me home with Tamaflu for 5 days.

I was around the monkeys but kept my distance. Medication has made me feel better, but I agree I wish I was back on the ship because I am my own room service.

I am sick since getting home on Wed. I am not sure if it is the weather changing or sickness - I can hardly talk now - my voice is almost gone but like a trooper I keep on talking!

The ship would be nice but I just wish I had my hubby here to take care of me :(

I still have not adjusted back to the correct time zone so I am ready for bed - 2 hours ago!

I thought I would come to the boards and talk without using my voice as I wait to see if tornadoes come our way - the storms are gaining yuckyness.

Thanks Staci for the explanation. That makes sense, although it is too bad. I would have used my credits to buy that group photo had I been told the right information and now it is too late. I do have the photo of the cast member with so many cameras. If anyone wants it, please email me. I'm not on here quite as frequently as before. <g>

Jan, I have the Santa Maria photos, too, so please shoot me an email and I will send them to you. I have everything on Snapfish, but not Photobucket.

On the stamps, I used to traveled internationally quite a bit for business and have not had my passport stamped in over 10 years, except in the Barcelona airport. Sorry so many had problems!

Thanks again to all who helped with lanyards, FE gifts, Secret Mickeys, events and more. It really added to the trip!

Cannot e-mail you as that option does not exist when I click your DIS name but I did send a PM with my e-mail address. THANKS in advance! The more the merrier!

Jan

I may have, but I probably won't get to my pictures until next week. I'm too sick and tired to do much.

Kristi

My pictures are still in the camera too. There is no deadline. I wanted to use it for a talk I expect to be giving NEXT YEAR so that is why there is not deadline. The more pictures I can get, the better, so whenever you find it, let me know. I can send you my e-mail if that helps.

THANKS!
jan

Neither of us got any respiratory or other illnesses.

During our layover in Atlanta on Saturday I saw flashes of light out of the corner of my right eye and it seemed like the right lense of my glasses was dirty. Things looked fuzzy out of my right eye and clear out of the left.

On Tuesday I called the Optometrist who said I should have called an Opthamologist on Monday! It could be a retinal tear and if not lasered back down fluid can get behind, separate the retina from the wall of the eye and cause blindness.

I canceled my afternoon clients, saw an opthamologist who said she thought there was a tear but could not find it so sent me to a retinal specialist who did a lot of poking, prodding and looking and finally found three small tears in an obscure place.

He lasered them Tuesday night and daily my right eye is better.

Never ignore eye odities!

Hey there, we sat at the tapas lunch during the "Seeing Seville" tour. It was great to meet you all. :thumbsup2

It was great to meet you too. Thank you for the pins!! It was amazing the number of times we bumped into you onboard in the days after the tour.

I picked up the virus the the crew was passing around while I was still onboard. Honestly with standard cold medication, it wasn't bad. You may have seen me walking around with a box of tissues. DH picked it up too as we were leaving. Now we have mostly shaken it and are facing allergies here at home.

This was my second cruise and the second time I have come home with a cold. At this point I just expect to come home with the sniffles, but that doesn't make it fun. Though I would rather have a cold than tummy trouble any day!

To all those feeling ill, I wish a speedy recovery.

I know Jan has seen this, but for anyone else who wants it, here is the photo we tok in Madeira:

We have all decided that it was worth the cold, especially at the end of the cruise. My daughter says she usually comes home from our Florida vacations with a cold. I told her she just took the long way home. Our Dr. said she thought it was a similar virus we missed while on vacation, but gave us something a little stronger to be sure. I feel great this morning. Meeting a couple of friends for breakfast today to plan a Halloween cruise we signed up for while on the ship. Hope everyone recovers quickly........

Been in bed the past three days (kinda; I have 8full suitcases and 4children). Sore throat, congestion, sinuses full full full. Last night I had a fever which had to be close to 102°-103°. I started antibiotics which my doc had perscribed before the trip. He always gives me one before we go away as I have polyps on my sinuses and am prone to infections. I'd take the room service in a heartbeat but as said it was alllll well worth it!! I'm hooked.:lovestruc Where are Yuroslav and Abraham when I need them??? :lmao:

diagnosed with a sinus infection (of the frontal sinuses), made worse by allergies. went to the dr yesterday...now on antibiotics, steriods & cough syrup. no longer contagious after this evening. not allowed to go to work until tuesday. no room service for me either =(

Glad you are now fully medicated! :lmao:Hope you feel better soon and get plenty of rest. Call me if you get bored!

I need to check in with Pam and see how she is feeling. I've had a very intermittent cough and that's it, thank Goodness!

... they picked our 7 year old daughter to question and asked her "do you know these people?" (meaning us) as they pointed over her head. She turned around, saw another group of people and said in a very loud, very clear, very nervous voice "I have never seen them in my life!" oiy! :rotfl:

Funny story! :]

What a terrific cruise! We enjoyed seeing so many people from prior cruises, and meeting new people too.
We're still traveling through Spain, but miss being on the ship.
Thank you to those who left FE items for our friends' son. He really enjoyed the many gifts. Woody

We're still in Spain too! Eight nights in Barcelona, then on to Turkey. What great weather & this city is too cool. We fly out tomorrow so will see what immigrations is like. Hope all goes well at 4 am. :worship:

As others have mentioned, what a fabulous cruise!! Thanks to all involved with the lanyards - we loved having them!! ...The ONLY good thing about being back at home is having a normal, light diet again....I don't know about anyone else, but my husband and I were both totally "fooded out" by the end of the cruise.....!

Yep, there is a food bar here at our hotel, but we are probably eating one third of what we did on the cruise! Still, the clothes are actually getting snugger... :scared1:

The customs guy wanted to know if all that luggage was ours!!! I looked at him like he was dumb! I said there are 3 of us - we each have one checked plus one extra and each have a carry on plus our purses. We have been gone for 3 weeks and on a cruise and needed formal wear and such - he waved me through before I finished talking but I kept telling him as I walked away why people on cruises for 2 weeks need a lot of luggage!Krisann

OMGosh, Krisann!!!! Too funny, but must have been frustrating! Speaking of funny...still getting a kick out of the laundry lady LOL
So good to meet you! Wish I could have met more of our great group.

Thanks for posting! I didn't get to meet too many, so happy to see the pic. :thumbsup2

Thanks to everyone for the cool FE gifts too! We had so much fun with them. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Thanks again to all who organized..... :worship::worship::worship:

Oh and my DS has a wicked cold/sniffle thing....but I usually attribute after vacay colds to the airplane ride, not the cruise...pressurized cabins have tons of germs and stuffy air.....its like being in closed Jar with a a bunch of germs! YUK!

OMG! I'm so glad you had it checked out and didn't just ignore it hoping it would work itself out - like I probably would. I'm glad everything is getting better!

I wish someone would tell me I couldn't go to work.... :rolleyes1

Yep, I was the unhappy recipient of someone's germs, as well. I also attributed it to 8.5 hrs. on a plane with several coughing, sneezing passengers, but it may have been my final DCL gift! Not fun to have a cold, on top of time-change and post-cruise-depression issues. Work was tough this week, but I'm feeling much better today (just in time for the weekend).

Seriously, this was a fabulous vacation, and I miss my servers/cabin steward every day. I've read other postings about the lack of entertainment week #2 and the "problem" children on board, but I have absolutely no complaints (ok, well maybe the crab legs in Palos were a bit soggy...but the stone crab more than made up for that!). Yes, week #1 was better "scheduled", but the ports and sheer relaxation of the remaining sea days were sufficient for us the second week. And we saw very few kids we found annoying; the young ones were utterly charming, especially around the characters. Our "baby" is 25, so we enjoyed watching them.

Thanks again to all who organized and went that extra mile to make it a better experience for the rest of us. Much appreciated.

Pat

We also thought the entertainment for the 2nd week was weak - but attributed it to volcanic ash issues. Before leaving the ship, Albert & Seymour told us DCL retained Heath Hyche for the 2nd week, as someone (entertainer) was not able to board in Madeira (or was is Gibraltar?). That aside, DCL usually has various back-up entertainment plans for various situations - but we did not see that plan in action on this cruise. We were surprised they considered "pictures" with Justin Guarini (American Idol) as 10:30PM entertainment. Likewise, featuring "ALICE" as main entertainment wasn't the right thing to do - especially since it had been released on land weeks ago ... and was also played in BV Theatre for several days afterwards. Not sure why there was no show or sail away party in Gibraltar. There was a LOT more (proper) entertainment on the EB Panama Canal cruise (2008).

Remember I'm a 1st timer; but isn't there usually a "goodbye get off the boat" party too?!? ;)

Yes there is in the atrium, usually right before "pub night". I always do the mad dash from one to the other! Although, "Pub Night" is usually on the last night of the cruise... either way-- The "until we meet again" party was missed! My son especially likes picking up all of the "Micket icon confetti" that is all over the carpet & stairs at the end of the party! (He carefully collects it & stuffs his pockets with it & then I throw it out! shhhh... :rotfl2:)
