Deb, the point is I am not tipping mousekeeping. Period! So the way I look at is, if the person who you worked for told you "thank you" or did nothing to acknowledge your work - which one would you like better?

I'd rather have nothing. A homemade card means nothing to me if I don't know you. Give me some cash and that would put a smile on my face.

I don't want to be flamed either, and this really is an honest questions, why wouldn't you tip mousekeeping? :confused3

Hmmm......from the flip side. I am not going to question why you are not leaving a tip for mousekeeping, but I will give you a perspective from the other side. I have worked in the service industry, primarily waitressing which is highly dependent on tips. I have worked many of Sundays with the church crowds. While many thought they were being nice with their little cards that said "Jesus Loves You" or "You Can Be Saved", that didn't help feed my then young children. Most of the times, these cards would be left with NO tip. On rare occasions it was left with a small tip (10% or less). I can tell you that those that became regular customers were taken care (bare minimum), but I did not spend extra time doing anything special for them as I knew they weren't going to go out of their way for me. Just my two cents from the other side...............

I'm wondering if the op has had a bad experience with mousekeeping? Is that why you won't tip? I'm not passing judgement, just curious.

As one who leaves a tip (at least a $1 per person/per day) in a nice printed Thank You envelope, I have already budgeted tipping into my vacation. I plan to tip mousekeeping, bell staff, and when checking our baggage curbside at the airport. I always have extra cash on hand just in case.

I received a nice handwritten note from one of my mousekeepers thanking us for our envelope & tip. It's clear from the note that she didn't speak/write much english, but I was so happy to receive such a thoughtful little note. I kept it and it's going to be a part of my scrapbook.

I have never met such friendly staff than at Disney World. My tipping is a way to show my appreciation for the extra magic that I am provided during my stay. Sure, the mousekeepers are paid a wage to clean your room, but I'm sure any bit extra helps.

While I think the little card idea is a nice idea, there is no way I would leave one without a tip. Just my opinion.

According to WDW, resort housekeeping is not a position for which a tip is customarily expected, so it's up to everyone individually whether they want to leave cash or not.

I think leaving cards is fine.

I'll probably be blasted for mentioning this again but Disneyland considers housekeeping a tipped position.

I realize it is up to each person at WDW. I doubt we are going to change peoples minds if they are made up about tipping at WDW.

I tip....I over tip and I tip some more. Before I started working for myself I worked for GMAC and if my boss didn't give me a proper raise yearly with my bonus I wouldn't continue to work there. If all my boss did was say "THANK YOU" I would be working somewhere else. Sure he say thank-you when projects where done on time and under budget. But he didn't just send me an email to say thank you. Over the course of four years, he said it with several "spot" bonuses in addition to my annual raise and bonus.

I have never know a card or a thank-you to pay a light, gas, bill.

But yet we continue the debate on tipping. For those who tip, continue to tip. For those who don't tip, don't tip --but don't leave a card. ITS TACKY!!!!!

I definitely tip. On our last trip, we were going into our room and saw mousekeeping at the other end of the hall. We walked into our room and just sat down when we heard a knock at the door. It was mousekeeping. She thanked us for our tips that we had been leaving her during our stay. She was very happy! We will definitely continue to tip! :sunny:

I don't want to be flamed by the OP. But here's my perspective. Wouldn't you prefer to get a raise in your job as recognition for a job well done, or would you like to get a nicely made thank-you card?

As a previous poster said quite well, a card won't pay the bills. Mousekeeping probably relies on those tips to pay for a particular daily expense. I, for one, will give them the money. A card, as nicely made as it may be, will not make their lives easier. Yes it may make them feel better that they're appreciated. But it WON'T put food on the table. And isn't that why people work???

Hang in there Ali.

btw. We tip and leave a thank you card.

fyi. Whenever someone says "I don't want to flame anyone here but," someone is about to get flamed.

this board!

People take care of their cats, dogs, and horses better than they do their fellow human. They invest more time in pet and they have more respect for their pets than another person. They are some dogs out they who eat better than I do and I work every day.

There are many pampered pets owners on this board who don't tip mouskeeping. Its a shame that people would rather cut off their right arm before leaving mousekeeping a $2 tip.

We left $5 ever-other day, most days we had a thank-you note waiting for us when we returned.

$5 every other day is nice but the odd days that you didnt leave a tip, the Mousekeeper that day didnt get one. You may have a different Mousekeeper each day.

Thanks for the envelope link. :flower:
No problem, I printed mine out but added the day of the week to each of them in Disney font. They turned out really neat. :)

gramlin, dragons are weak. wouldn't you rather be a bulldog, pirate, red-devil, pioneer, or general?

How do you know about my school mascot?

It's coming along... Still hurts to some degree. The pins hurt the worst though.

I know as much as I do because I have been here lurking until January this year or other places researching WDW. I have learned so much from this site alone that it feels like I've been there already.

Do I know you?

Thank you for posting the link to get the Mousekeeping Envelope Graphics. I usually just leave our tip on the table because I always forget to bring envelopes. This year I plan on printing them out and packing them right away.

As I have waitressed in the past, I feel that Mousekeeping deserves a tip. There wages are low (especially working for WDW...I had friends that worked at WDW and they said that the wages aren't the best) so please keep this in mind.

I know that not everyone feels the same way as I do but I just thought I would voice my opinion. I originally decided to not post on this thread because I didn't want to contribute to a huge argument but here goes...
If you can afford to go to Disney, you can afford to leave a tip. Disney isn't cheap (even with codes). Think about the person that is cleaning your room. Obviously they are doing that job for a reason. I highly doubt that that person, as a child, thought hmmm...I would really like to be a Mousekeeper when I grow up. They are trying to get by in the world with not so great wages and they could have children that they are trying to support. Most that I have met barely speak english and would "possibly" not be able to read a card left in english. The card is a nice gesture but I feel that in lieu of leaving a tip the card is a bit tacky. If you are really concerned that you can not leave a whole $2 dollars (at least $1 per person - we leave more) then maybe you should think about vacationing elsewhere.

Sorry, everyone else was leaving there opinion so I decided to leave mine.
