Does anyone know if you can use Disney Gift Cards to apply you key to the world? :confused3
I was to just use my ktw and not have to carry credit cards as I have heard of peoples cc# being used!! And I don't want that to happen to me:scared1:

Yes, you can apply a gift card to your KTTW at anytime during your stay.

Nope. I tried. They said I had to have something on my account first then they could accept payment for it. They could not take a payment for more than my balance.

You can just ask them what the credit limit is before they charge to your CC then stop buy and pay it before that.

where are you staying? We stayed at ASMo and the limit was $500. Once we hit $500 then the availability to charge on our KTTW card would be turned off and then we would have to pay the balance. We brought $300 in gift cards down and had those applied on the 3rd day since our balance had gone over the $300. We did express check out and my card was charged the remaining balance. If you don't want that done then tell them at check in you don't want express checkout.

We plan on using our Disney Gift cards to pay for our room charges at POFQ.
If we have some Disney Gift card balance left - we will use it in the Parks or keep the still good Disney Gift cards in our room safe and charge some meals back to our room and then pay off the extra charges on our room with the Disney Gift cards and other methods of payment (cash, Visa, traveler checks).

To be able to charge expenses to your room, you have to have a credit card on file. Nothing ever needs to be charged to the cc and you can apply your gift cards to the room charges on your account at any time.

so you can't have charging privileges with just gift cards? they won't apply cash/gift card to the account? we were trying to avoid the hassle of carrying a bunch of gift cards with us everywhere and just use the KTTW card.

We are staying at the Port Orleans Riverside in one of the new Royal Rooms. So you have a limit before they charge anything?? Also is it ture if you charge tips to you KTTW that they atuomatically us 18%? I just like to tip what I feel is apporiate.

Hummm?? I was chatting with a CM yesterday and they said I could but I know someone can tell you one way then someone else another. What did you charge back to your room?

Unless they changed it this year, only parties of 6 or more are automatically charged the 18% gratuity. They include on the receipt what the recommended 18% gratuity would be (so you don't have to do the math, and give a little hint-hint) but you can write in whatever number you want. We always charge the tip on the KTTW card so we don't have to carry a bunch of cash with us.

So you can just write any amount on the tip and have it charged to you KTTW. I just don't wanna carry a ton of cash or extras. This will be our first trip and want it to be hassle free.

So you have to have cc on file but can pay off the balance charged to your room with gift cards? Is there a limit on how much can be charged to your room?

wanted to report back with my experience at the POP on Oct 2:

when I checked in I asked if we could apply all our GC's and Rewards cards to the room account and the CM said no problem. they have a piece of paper that they track the each payment as she applied it to the account on the computer and then handed us all the cards back. If for some reason we had balance left over (ha!) if would be refunded back on one of the GC's. We did leave a CC on file so we could do the express checkout as I figured there'd be something we forgot about (and there was but it was nice leaving Disney with just a $60 charge for pictures :) ) but the CM had said no problem to the GC's before we put the CC on file.

however, i found out that this year you can no longer charge the Food and Wine GC to your room account - it has to be cash or charge. So that killed our plan for convenience. that was part of the reason why we wanted to put all the little cards on the room account so we didn't have to keep pulling something out of our pockets to pay and risk dropping stuff. we planned to just charge the little wrist GC to the room but the CM's at the Festival Welcome center made it seem like it was a change for this year. hope they don't keep it.

Wait, can you explain that again, I'm trying to figure out what you mean? thanks :)

originally there was some conflicting reports if you could apply gift cards to your room account before having a balance on it. we were able to apply 4 gift cards and 2 Reward Redemption cards to the account at checkin so we could have charging privileges on the KTTW card. we did leave a credit card on file so we could do express checkout, but we did that after we had the CM apply all the GC's.

is that what you needed?

In case anyone's interested, if you have a lot of little gift cards, I believe you can call and have all balances from each gift card transferred to one card. This way, you only have to carry 1 gift card around with you.

What are planning to use it for? I think what I plan to do for our TS meals is get a bunch of $20 GCs. I will just leave them as the tips or pay for our drinks (DH's beer and my fruity-frozen-whatever:lmao:). I figure most TS meals tips will be at *least* a $20 tip (if it's more, I'll just add some cash).

Last time, I opened a debit account through our bank specifically for our travel. I only transferred what I needed for the day each night into the account. It kept our budget in check, and fradulent charges away. I may do that this time, but I kind of like the GC idea, too.

Just wanted to say this was our experience this past May -- they combined three of our gift cards into one.

We are also planning to pay for EVERYTHING we charge to the KTTW card with various Disney GCs. So, if I am understanding this correctly...we need to give a CC for charging privileges, but can check the balance regularly and apply the GCs as needed to pay it off in order to avoid hitting the maximum balance ($500.00 on our last stay) allowed for charging and being declined while in the parks...as opposed to just handing over all GCs at check-in to essentially set up a "credit" for KTTW charging? I guess I don't mind giving the CC number even if we don't intend to use it, but would rather have all GCs applied to the account as a credit and not have them on us or in the room.

Another general question regarding GC's...does anyone know of any Disney GCs that are NOT accepted for payment of your KTTW charges...I.E. Sam's Club, Wegmans, etc.?

Last GC related question (promise;))...is there anything that you CAN'T charge to your KTTW card? I wanted to wait to purchase MVMCP tickets once we arrive so that I can check the weather and wondered if those can be added to our KTTW card?

As you can tell, I haven't done the GC thing before!:confused3

:thanks:

i'm no expert but i answered inline below based on my experience

as always, things can change at anytime.

1. at POP on 10/2/11 we were able to put all our GC's on the room account at checkin which setup a credit that we worked off. if you put more credit on the account than you use, the balance would be refunded back to one of your GC's (per the front desk CM that checked us in).

Another general question regarding GC's...does anyone know of any Disney GCs that are NOT accepted for payment of your KTTW charges...I.E. Sam's Club, Wegmans, etc.?

2. So far as I know, as long as there are no restrictions mentioned on the card (like the free bonus cards that were only good for merchandise at disney store and disneystore.com), it doesn't matter where you got it, it's all the same and can be used to pay your room charges

Last GC related question (promise;))...is there anything that you CAN'T charge to your KTTW card? I wanted to wait to purchase MVMCP tickets once we arrive so that I can check the weather and wondered if those can be added to our KTTW card?

3. So far as I know, tickets can be charged to your room account. The only thing we were denied charging to our room was the F&W wrist GC. I don't know if that goes for all GC purchases or just that special event one, but they would only take cash or credit card, no room charge to buy that GC. (we had them try anyway but it wouldn't go through as a room charge)

As you can tell, I haven't done the GC thing before!:confused3

:thanks:
