Applying for a job (question)

How long does it usually take to get a response after submitting a resume to a prospective employer? I faxed one on Monday and haven't heard anything, but I know I am very qualified for what they are looking for. I did notice that the ad has been running in the paper all week, so I don't know if they just haven't started calling people and/or because it is coming upon a holiday weekend or that they just aren't interested in me.

Unfortunately, a lot of people get no response whatsoever. It's one of the unfortunate things in our country. It hasn't been many years since pretty much any company would send all applicants a form letter. Not so now.

I do think it would be very early to hear from a resume you sent Monday, especially if a lot of applications were received. I don't think it's unusual for applicants to not even be looked at until after the closing date for the job.

Back when I was in the work force, if we were running the ad for a week, we would generally wait a week or so for applicants to respond and then go through the pile of resumes and call the ones we thought were worth bringing in for an interview.

If you just faxed the resume on Monday, I would definitely not worry that you haven't been called yet. They are probably just waiting until they have a significant stack of resumes to ensure a good pool of candidates. If you're highly qualified, they'll prbably be calling you in a couple of weeks.

That at least makes me feel a little bit better, I sure hope it is the case because I am really interested (and qualified) for the position that was advertised. Hopefully next week will at least bring an opportunity to interview with them. Thanks!
