I heard if you stay in a DVC resort and purchase while you are there, you can apply what you paid for your reservation towards the purchase price of your DVC contract. Can anyone confirm if this is true or not? I can't find any info on this so I was thinking this is incorrect info? TIA!

Haven't seen that promotion in years; as far as I know it is no longer offered.

Check over at dvcnews.com for latest purchase incentives that are available.

Best wishes :goodvibes

This is a common promotion in the timeshare industry outside of DVC. DVC did offer this promotion at one time, when they first started their program, but it has not been offered in years with little in terms of rumors supporting that it will be anytime in the near future.

Thank you both....I figured if this was something that was going on I would have heard more about it. Too bad they don't offer it, it was probably a great deal at the time!

But if you DO have a reservation for cash that is out a ways, and you'd like to apply that $$ to a purchase, you can buy and tell your guide that you need to have the exact dates that your reservation is for as a condition of the purchase, and I'll bet that they can free up an accomodation for you.

It wasn't an abnormally great deal because they still made you use the newly-purchased points for the trip. In many cases the buyers in question were not actually staying in DVC accommodations. So they would have to switch resorts to a DVC, be charged the number of points applicable to the days they spend at the DVC, and would get partial credit for the unused days under the cash booking.

I suspect Disney bookings are too complicated these days to make similar offers. In other words, if you tried to do this during a "7-for-4" or "free dining" stay, Disney isn't about to give you credit toward the DVC purchase AND keep the free meal plan component.

We had this deal in 1997 when we bought at OKW. We were staying at the Polynesian. We got credit for part of the price of our stay, and we did have to give up some points, but not all of them. I know we carried points over to our next stay in 1998 and got a two bedroom villa.

When I bought DVC, we had a trip planned (about two months out) and my mom was paying around $3k for a 2BR at BWV. When I asked about applying that toward DVC, the guide suggested we see if anything was available for those days on points. All were available so we bought points, the guide helped in booking the room on points and my mom paid us the $3k ( she knows she'll get lots of future visits :) )to apply to our DVC purchase. Not exactly the same but a variation can be be accomplished without a true "promotion".
