Appleton Wisconsin ideas

Hi Dis Buddies
I have to travel for business to Appleton in October. My DH and 19 month (at the time) DD will be coming in midweek. I am looking for things for them to do while Im in my class.

Appleton has a great Children's museum, which is really geared for younger kiddos! (We took our DD there when she was 5, and she was olmost too old for the museum.

Also - if you DH is at all interested in trains, there is a train museum in Green Bay, which the two of them might find interesting. And - in Green Bay - let's not forget about the packer hall of fame. Don't know if that would interest a 19 month old, though.

About 20 miles south of Appleton, there is the EAA - Experimental Aircraft association, which also has an awesome museum.

Those are great ideas. I only know of the large indoor mall in Appleton. Other than that, I didn't know there was much else to do there! It is a boring ride from Milwaukee to Appleton. That is probably why I've only made the 1.5 hour trip on a couple of occasions.

There is also a place to eat and play games and has rides and laser tag called Funset Blvd.I haven't been there in a while but my whole family loved it!!

Appleton has a lot to do and is less then a half hour from Green Bay as well. You can:
Go to the Mall
Archiver's scrapbooking store right by the mall
Timber Rattler's baseball game (minor league, but always fun!)
Paint your own pottery downtown at The Fire
Take in a show at the PAC downtown Appleton
Rent a boat and enjoy the fox river or lake winnebego
Go to Green Bay--tour lambeau field

The Building for Kids is probably your best bet with a 19 month old. Do be aware they get a lot of field trip groups in the mornings and it can get busy - especially on Friday mornings. I've been there several times on Friday mornings and it can be chaotic with all of the school groups. But it is a great place, both my kids love it and ask to go there all of the time. Be sure to spend some time in the art studio - we didn't go in there until our 4th or 5th time there and my kids love the art studio!

Within Appleton itself there are some really nice parks - Memorial Park on the north side of town has a great playground, also a petting zoo type area (although I'm not sure if the barn will still be open in Oct.), but the playground there is outstanding.

Fox River Mall is big and they have a small play area in the food court - nothing spectacular but somplace to go, epsecially if the weather is bad.

One other place we've gone is Money Joes - it's a bounce house place. They have some bouncers for littler kids, although a lot of it is geared toward a little older kids. Wild Air is another bounce place in town, I believe they have a seperate play area for kids under 3.

The Fox Valley Mall in Appleton is actually a great mall! Also, drive to Green Bay and check out the Packers stadium. There is a restaurant inside it that you can eat it all year long.

Free-If the weather is nice Memorial Park has a big playset that is all handicapped accessible.

There is a Paper Discovery Museum, I haven't been there but it is newer so it should be geared towards kids.

Free-In Kaukauna, which is about 10-15 minutes away, there is the 1000 Island Nature Center. It has a lot of stuffed animals that a man who used to go on African Safaris donated to the center. There are also live birds and reptiles. He could also walk on a stroller friendly nature trail.

Free-Plamann Park has a petting farm and trails, but I am not sure if the farm will still be open in October.

In Menasha, which neighbors Appleton, there is a Planetarium and an Earth Science Museum. Menasha also has a nature center, Hecktrodt. But the one in Kaukauna has more animals.

If I think of some other ideas, I will add them. Also if you have any questions about Appleton feel free to ask.

If you are flexible about where you stay the Country Inn & Suites in Little Chute (listed as Appleton North) and the Bridgewood Resort Hotel in Neenah have a water play area for younger children.

All the suggestions previously mentioned are really great.

Also, in Suamico (about 10 mins north of Green Bay, right off Hwy 41) there is the NEW Zoo, which is fantastic.

The mall there is nice. And there is an outlet (ish) mall in OshKosh, about 25 minutes away.

I am crossing my fingers that I get a job I applied for which would require me to move there for a year!

I also spent a few weeks there training. It's not a bad place.

No, it isn't a bad place, but unless you like to shop, there isn't a whole lot to do.
