I cannot speak to SSR, and whether or not you're in a refurbed room may impact this, but I know that our TVs at OKW had HDMI ports so there's no reason the Apple TV wouldn't work. Changing inputs could be an issue though since the remotes are universal and not branded to the the TV. I don't recall noticing if there was an input selection.

I have not stayed at SSR, but have stayed at over half of the DVC resorts and have had no problem with this. My kids sometimes hook their Switch up to the TVs via the HDMI connection. Even if the remote does not have an input selection, which I think they do, the TVs usually have hidden buttons on the side or bottom, with minimal controls (e.g., volume, input, power, etc.)

At AKL now with Samsung Smart TV. The remotes are ‘dumb’ remotes (generic remotes) with a set up button which is disabled. No way to switch HDMI input. Will check tv itself to see if there is a ‘manual’ input switch.

Update: At AKL now with Samsung Smart TV. TV has a small swivel plastic ‘joystick’ on the right bottom backside of the set (if facing set). It will allow you to check on Samsung apps (which appear to be disabled in terms of downloading), power off, and most importantly, switch sources. Choosing this option brings up all of the input options which you can choose. Input HDMI port after connecting and streaming services will operate.

How would you connect to the WiFi? Usually hotels require an interface to connect to the wifi. that might be your sticking point.

Your device will have its own instructions but should connect via a 3rd device to authenticate.

Just search your device + "connect to hotel wifi" and instructions/videos will come up.

Everyone who travels even on a yearly basis should invest in a good (smaller) universal remote that can be programmed. They cost like $10-$20 and can be used pretty much on any TV you will ever come across in hotels.

Sometimes you may need to unplug coax/ethernet cables from the TV but pretty much every time you can switch inputs. There is a tiny percentage of TVs which truly are locked down but most hotel chains are replacing them with non-locked TVs because of issues they cause.

Still remember in NYC once being able to switch inputs but no way to change the volume lol.

Does anyone know if we can hook up the Apple TV and connect to Wi-Fi while at HHI? I want to be able to ppv a UFC event via the ESPN+ app (the only way to order UFC) while I’m at HHI. Would be ironic if Disney didn’t have a way to do this. I suppose Disney could offer someway of entering ESPN+ credentials directly into the TV but I doubt they went through the trouble of setting that up. Thank you.

We bring our Amazon fire stick to DVC rooms and have not had a problem streaming on the in room Wi-Fi, we plug it into the hdmi on the back of the tv. I don’t have Apple TV but I’d assume it works similar

The beach condo we stayed in this summer had a cheap (TCL?) Roku TV in the bedroom that had a neat “hotel” feature. When installing an app, the Roku interface would ask you the checkout day, so it would automatically log your account out.

Same here. Just back from BWV’s and watched a few PBS and Netflix shows on the fire stick. I believe once on an earlier stay I did as mentioned above have to use the menu buttons on the actual TV to change the input. We have also used the Apple TV. But the Firestick travels easier.

I carry a Universal remote with me. You can program it to whatever brand is in the room so you can control all the TV functions if the remote in the room won't.

Do people find that the wifi is fast enough?

I was there about two weeks ago at VGF and the wifi was so slow that I could not stream video on my iPad. I had to use my phone as a hotspot and LTE if I wanted to watch Disney + on my iPad.

I always wondered what they did for the NBA players (since they were given a streaming stick for their TV’s)

It’s certainly doesn’t have a guaranteed quality of service. It’s possible either too many other guests using the buildings internet and/or access points closest to you are broken or unplugged (I think they are often behind/under the TV). In an ideal world, guests would call in IT service tickets and they would do something to resolve the issue.
