Apple TV

Does anyone have one??What can you tell me about it, Im looking for ideas for Vicki for Christmas and Im stuck? She loves Apple, and unfortunatly I cant really stretch to an Ipad, but have seen these mentioned.

Is it a TV? or a receiver that plugs into the TV? What do they do? She has an Apple Mac laptop, can this be used with it in some way??

Any information would be great, thank you x

it's a box that plugs into your tv. You can play your computer's itunes stuff (movies, photos, music) on it and can also rent movies on it.

In the US you can rent tv episodes on it as well, but I'm not sure if this function is available in the UK or not.

In terms of using the mac with it, she can use the mac to supply the itunes stuff to it.

It's worth noting that the apple tv has no storage of its own - it's purely a streaming thing either from your computer or from the online itunes stuff (rentals).

I got the Apple TV from Xmas money from last year and my birthday.

As UK Stitch says it is a great way to stream iTunes material on to a larger TV.

The troops love it as they can play youtube videos through the TV and watch slide shows of our WDW/DLP photographs.
I have been slowly converting home videos so that they can be played via the Apple TV.

The Apple TV can connect via wi-fi or cable

I think the Apple TV would make a wonderful present

Just thought I'd check for "safety" - have you got the new £99 that came out in the last couple of months or the bigger one. There's quite a difference between the two as the new one has absolutely no storage so you have to stream everything

Yes, I have the new version of the Apple TV. Love the form factor that makes it barely noticable beside the TV.
