Tried before when Apple Pay was brand new and it didn't seem to work. Can you use Apple Pay now in the parks for merch/food at the Mickey touch points at the register?

Yes absolutely! I used my phone to purchase almost everything on my last four trips. Be sure to tell the cast members that you're "paying by phone" so they can hit the right button for credit/debit cards. Then the Mickey logo will be ready to accept your payment.

If you just put your phone to the Mickey without telling the cashier, it will be looking for a MagicBand, and it won't work. The problem at the beginning (around 2 years ago) was that CMs weren't educated on how the NFC system worked. About half the time, I let them know what to do and they ended up very excited, telling the cashier next to them, "Wow, check this out... did you know that we can take Apple Pay?"

That's probably what happened. I just threw the phone up there and didn't say anything. Glad it works as I have a card that pays 20% more in rewards when using Apple Pay, so I am sure that will give it a good workout. Thanks for the reply!!

For whatever reason, I never think of this outside of establishments that have the little sign, now I'm really stoked. I travel very light into the parks, and can now get rid of a credit card! I might still take one if I'm at the Swolphin and don't have a magic band backup, but that's a fantastic idea. Thanks for the heads up!

You still want to bring your CC - the NFC payment systems don't always work.

When I have charging abilities on a MB, I would rely on Apple Pay and the band, if I didn't, like when I stay at the Swolphin, I would bring a cc. The idea of throwing cash in my phone case and heading off with just my ID to the parks is pretty nifty. Through 3-4 phones I've been able to stash a bill and ID in my case, but an additional credit card means its swimming in a pocket or I have to bring a wristlet.

Oh...what card is that (if you're willing to share). We used Apple Pay back in Dec 2015 when we went because Discover was running a promo that you got 10% cash back for using Apple Pay. Rather than doing it at each location, we still charged to our bands and then used Apple Pay at the hotel to pay off the charges. The CMs were not sure how to do it as it was pretty new then, but after they got a manager they were able to figure it out!

It's the Cash Wise Card from Wells Fargo. You get a 20% bonus over the regular rewards rate when you use Apple Pay (or any electronic payment) for the first year. So instead of getting 1.5% back, you would get 1.8% cash back. Just got the card so I am going to try to use Apple Pay anywhere I can. The card is really cool looking too!
