Appetizer as Main Dish?

Anyway, sometimes when i go to restaurant's i sometimes just pick an appetizer as a main dish (which usually means they just give you a bit more of what ever appetizer).

So my question is, on the dinning plan (basic) can you order an appetizer as a main dish?

I chatted with someone from DisneyWorld.com and they said "no" unless you have deluxe dining which the appetizer comes with it. As my parents always have said "it doesn't hurt to ask once you get there" since different restaurants may allow you...

sometimes the castmembers or people may "bend" the rules a bit but this is rare.

Generally the answer will be no, but it can't hurt to ask. However, I doubt they will give you a larger serving. You are more likely to have success at the Disney owned venues than at the non-Disney places (e.g., Tutto Italia, Yak & Yeti, etc.).

As far as DDP is concerned, the answer is no.

If OOP, there is no problem. I will often do the Kona's Sticky Wings Appetizer (which includes some salad) as a main course. Or ar Brown Derby I will sometimes have a Cobb Salad Appetizer for Two as my main course.

Just a fiscal point. The appetizers at Disney owned restaurants are usually on the "small" side and run anywhere from $5-$20 so you would be losing money on the DDP by ordering an appetizer for dinner. It would would be better for you to pay out of pocket and not get the dining plan. However, I assume you received the free DDP and that's why your asking.

Because it would actually be a profit to Disney, I can't imagine if you asked a server who then asked his/her manager that they would say no to such a request. If they understand that they could actually be making money on the transaction it's a no brainer. The only other issue is the fact that it costs less and the server would not get as large a tip but I guess you could throw in a few extra dollars if they work it out for you

They will say no. When we asked about this a couple of years ago, this is what was explained to me by a manager at a Disney restaurant: the dining plan reimburses automatically, and it is all based completely on what is entered on the ticket. AT the same time, the computer system tracks inventory through what is ordered & delivered to the tables, so they have to enter the correct items to keep the inventory in the kitchen up to date. So if they enter an appetizer on the order, the system recognizes it is an appetizer which is not covered on the regular dining plan...the restaurant will not be reimbursed any money whatsoever from the dining plan--they won't make money, they'd lose money serving an appetizer as an entree on the dining plan. If they faked it, and entered an entree name but delivered the appetizer you wanted instead, the restaurant's inventory re-supply system would not restock the correct items.
